Women's Golf Rebuilds
The team is taking time to gather its strength and com-
pose themselves to do what they can to succeed. The Mean Green Women's Golf Team
has taken a breath this year. It is hard to
match the success of last season and
four top-five finishes including atop five at
the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
The team is taking time to gather their
strength and compose themselves.
"For women's golf, it is a rebuilding
time," said Director of Golf Jim Bob
Jackson. "This year has beendisappointing; it has been a growing
process.
The season appeared to be headed
for repeat success with five lettermen
returning. Alum and All-Conference star
Randi Gauthier, now on the LPGA Tour,
was a vital asset to the team in the past,
but Snyder sophomore Andrea
Lancaster looks to assume her role.
"Randi was the basis of the women's
program, and she carried the
lot of the load for four years,"
said Jackson.
The first tournament was
located in Arizona at the
Wildcat Invitational. The top
scorer was junior Laura
Rakel who shot a 77, a better
average then the rest of the
team who cumulatively took
a 328. At the next tournament,
the Bobcat Desert Classic
at Palm Valley Country Club,
NT shot a definite difference
with a 299 and sixth placefinish. The Green was one of the only
teams to break the 290s at that
tournament.
Next stop in the tour was the Baylor
Invitational at Tapatio Springs Country
Club. Andrea Lancaster showed talents
at this meet with a tournament "best-of" i
score of 79. Lancaster continued to
dominate with Jaclyn Golden atthe Susie
Maxwell Berning Classic. Both women
tied at 62nd place with an 83 and an 85
respectively. The Mean Green took 14th i
place as a team.
The North Texas Women's Golf Team
returned to action in April when it,
participated in the Sun Belt Conference
Championship in Niceville, Florida at the e
Bluewater Bay Golf Club. (
