Some 100 gay and lesbian
Republicans attended a “Rally
for Liberty” last weekend at
Fort Worth’s Water Gardens to
protest the Texas GOP’s
refusal to grant the gay group
Log Cabin Republicans booth
space at the state convention going on across
the street. Log Cabin state president Steve
Labinski (pictured) blamed the refusal on
extremists within the party.
NAVY SETTLES
PAGF
The United States Navy last week agreed to
settle a lawsuit brought by Timothy McVeigh,
who had been discharged for homosexuality
after the Navy illegally obtained information
about his online account from America Online.
McVeigh will be allowed to retire early with full
benefits, and to recoup legal fees from the
Navy. AOL officials announced last week they
had apologized to McVeigh and paid him an
undisclosed sum earlier this year, even though
he had not sued AOL.
The New York Supreme Court has upheld
an appeals court ruling that denied a lesbian
visitation rights to the child to whom her for-
mer partner had given birth during their rela-
tionships. The court said the woman had no
standing because same-gender marriage is
not recognized in New York state.
