AN UPRIVER TRIP
A Herald Mans Visit to the
Beautiful Ranch of Judge
Hyne3
A few days outing at this
season can be thoroughly en
joyed by taking the route up
the Rio Grande valley and vis
iting the numerous ranches and
farms that line the river banks
The well advanced crops the
beautifully carpeted grounds
and the luxuriant foliage of
the trees convinces one that
the day of the norther is over
and spring in all its beauty
reigns supreme A turn from
the Carricitos ranch leads to the
back country After ridingabout
ten miles the Arroyo Colorado
is reached on the opposite
bank of which is the ruins of
the once famous La Faria which
was noted as a trading point
and the location of a colony
the head of which was Padre
Balli The old church which
was of adobe is now only a
ridge of dirt which marks the
outline of the old building The
cemetery though showing signs
of decay is still used as a re-
ceptacle for the dead The his-
tory of the place would prove
interesting and will be written
when all the facts can be learn-
ed The whole country from
there to Tio Cano lake is cov-
ered with beautiful verdure On
the margin of the lake which
is some miles in extent are sev-
eral prosperous ranches among
which is that of William Tur
ner and Judge L J Hynes
The latter San Lorenza deserves
special mention He has only
lately commenced substantial
improvements and the place is
already assuming a home like
appearance Under an en
closure of about twelve acres is
planted corn and a portion of
the same tract is devoted to the
culture of garden truck etc
The corrals are conviently locat-
ed and a new pasture is being
fenced for the care of the fine
stock a broad plateau in front
of the mainbuilding with trees
on the margin of the water and
the lake itself make a picture
which will have to be seen to
be appreciated The whole of
the ranch property of San Lor
enza consists of from eight to
ten thousand acres

THE PAINS OF RHEUMATISM
According to the best authorities
originate in h morbid condition of
the blood Lactic ncid caused by
the decomposition of the gelatinous
and albuminous tissues circulates
with the blood and attacks the
fibrous tissues particularly in the
joints and thus causes the local
manifestations of the disease The
back and shoulders are the parts
usually affected by rheumatism and
the joints at the knees ankles hips
and wrists nre also sometimes at-
tacked Thousands of people have
found in Hood s Sursaparilla a posi-
tive and permanent cure forrhetima
tism It has had remarkable suc-
cess in curing the most severe cases
The secret of its success lies in the
fact that it attacks at on re the
cause of the disease by neutralizing
the lactic arid and purifying the
bloodus well as strengthening every
function of the body
