is still trne, he said, that 85 per-
cent of everything the average
man leaves his loved ones is in
life insurance proceeds, “rays you
háve kindled, set ontheir way, to
go on forever.” The benefits of fra-
ternalism go on, too, he said, in
work with youth, college scholar-
ship programs, orphan benefits. In
an atmosphere of uncertainty and
Insecurílty, people grab for sie-
curity, and thaťs what we seli.”
Results of a questionnaire an-
swered, by about 75 per cent of
the local units of 58 or the 98
NFCA member- soeidties revealed
that last year the fraiternal bener
fit societies spent more than $56
million in charitaible, educational,
religious and other beneficient
work. Members of various frater-
nals also donated 1,950,703 hours
of volunteer community work,
812,995 hours of service to the dis-
abled, made 929,026 visits to the
sick, and served as blood donors
148,780 times.
While impressive, the results are
far from complete because not all
units of all societies responded to
the questionnaire.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON
Dear Members and Friends:
I wish to acquaint you with
some of the coming appearances
of our SPJST Lodge No. 88 Czech
Coneert Orchestra.
First, we are going to Dallas to-
gether with the Lodge 88 Chorál
Club to perform for Czech Day
at the State Fair.
Next, we will appear on the
Dick Gottlieb Show on KVRL-TV
Channei 26 in Houston at 7 p.m.
on Tuesday, October 22nd, aJso
with the Chorál Club.
Finally, on Sunday, October 27,
we will perform at the SPJST
Lodge 88 annual Czech Day Festiv-
al at 1435 Beán Street in Houston,
_7_
again with the Lodge 88 Chorál
Club singers (somehow we just
cannot shake them). A portion of
these festivities will be broadcast
over station KFRD, Rosenberg.
These two fine musical organ-
izations perform for your listen-
ing pleasure and their own, so
please tuně in. Better still, come
to any or all of these events and
meet us and be with us for an en-
joyable time. Live audiences are
welcome at the TV station.
I must say that Lodge 88 is real-
ly behind us and supports our and
their orchestra. They ehartered
two busses to transport us and the
Chorál Club to Dallas; -and they
provide monies liberally for mušle,
music stands and other orchestra
necessities. We play entirely gratis
for their functions but they are
lavish with free food refreshments,
and other goodies when we play.
In addition, they invite us to their
“Workers’ Parties” where we are
treated royally to fine food, re-
freshments, and free dancing to a
fine dance orchestra hired for the
oecasion.
We are stili inviting musicians
to join our group. We hatve young-
sters from high school bands, old-
sters who dusted off old instru-
ments long forgotten, and every-
one in between. Don’t worry that
you might play a falše notě because
when you do, the director or as-
sistant director will jump all over
you and straighten you out so that
you will be playing perfectly in no
time. You do not háve to be a
member of the SPJST to join the
orchestra but when you find out
about the fine fellowship, pleas-
ures, advantages and benefits
available to the members of the
lodge you may want to join that
too. We practice every Wednesday
from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the lodge,
1435 Beall Street, Houston. See you
then!
Nazdar!

Director
