of '.Allegianee, a welcome address: was,
given by District President Johnnie
Hrabina, who also expressed his thanks
to áll for coming to the meeting and
for the wonderful attendance. He urged
all the members: to help make this meet-
ing ,a fraternal meeting, so that every-
one would feel free to express his or
her vícws in his own way and in such
a way as to be interesting also to the
young members.
Among the officers fromi the Supreme
Lodge and visitors from other districts
were: Brother Marek, Supreme Presi-
dent; Brother Chupick, Supreme Sec-
retary; Brother Koliha, Supreme Treas-
urer; Brother Urbanovsky, Supreme Fi-
nancial Secretary; Brothers Valcik, Nav-
rátil and Skrabanek. From District II
Brothers Cerny, Bundil, Kleprlik, Špan-
iel, Mikeska, Červenka. From District V:
Brother and Sister Sefcik and Sister
Valcik. From District 7: Brother Micul-
ka/ and his wife.
Roli call was called and 19 of the 21
lodges were present. We had 24 organ-
izers and 27 delegates to our next eon-
vention in attendance. Minutes of the
previous meeting hekl in Fort Worth
in December were read and approved
as read.
Brother Hrabína called on the Third
District by-law committee to give its
report; and as there were not any
changes since the Fort Worth meeting,
Brother Steiner just brought up the
mam points, one of which was that the
Vestnik be published semi-monthly and
oir a better quaiity páper. He stressed
that by having the Vestnik published
semi-monthJy we would háve a much
better Vestnik. Also that the vice pres-
ident should be active at all times and
Uťat he could be the head of the Vest-
nik r as editor, head of the organizers’
department and be the public relations
mám. A long cliscussion followed these
recommendations with Brothei’s Hošek,
Steiner, Valcik, Snapka, Bartek, Holá-
sek . and Sister Horák participating.
MEETING ADJOURNED FOR RINNER
--'i/
After a wonderful lunch, on which I
would like to compliment the ladies of
West, the youth of West had a brief
program. The program was under the
direetion of Sisters Popp and Cocek.
These ladies and their talented youth
deserve our praise and thanks.
Three charter members were recog-
nized and each received a nice corsage.
They were Sisters Anna Prikryl, Anna
I-Iusak and Frances Bilek. Brother Čer-
venka wished them the best of good
health and expressed his hope that they
would enjoy their stay among us for a
longt time to come. Then the oldest and
youngest members were recognized;
Brother Frank Svoboda was the eldest
at age 85, and the baby of Brother and
Sister Edmond Marek was the young-
est. The greatest distance traveled to
the meeting was by Brother and Sister
Emil Mikulka from Fíoresville.
In the aftemoon session Brother Hra-
bina called on suggestions that the
members might háve. Brother Steiner
suggested that District Three sponsor
a youth program and moved that we
give sorne prizes to the young members
who will participate in the program,
The mutloii was seconded and passed.
Brother Pokladník moved that we al-
low $150.00 for this program and that
the luwiy elected officers appoint a
committee to carry out the program.
Motion carried.
The home for the aged was discussed
by Brothers Hošek, Cerny, Kleprlik and
Sister Horák. Brother Hošek moved that
the district go on reeord as being for
the home for the aged. The motion was
seconded by Brother Pokladník and car-
ried.
The officers of Listí let Three all gave
brief reports; on their activities during
the past year and then Brother Čer-
venka gave his report as director of
District Three and outlined some of the
duties of a director and the responsi-
bilitíes which he has. Brief but inter-
esting speeches were given by Brothers
Chupick, Koliha, Valcik, Urbanovsky,
Navrátil, Španiel, Miculka, Cerny, Kle-
prlik, Červenka and Sefcik. All the
speeches were interesting but it would
be impossible for me to write all that
was said. First, I can’t write shorthand
so I couldnT possibly get it all down;
and secondly, it would také up too much
space. Sister Horák had a short talk
on the publications committee and
urged all the delegates to consider and
try to be in favor of the committee in
the future just as it is now.
Following was an address by Brother
Edward Marek, President of the Su-
preme Lodge. He had a very interesting
address in which he spoke about our
youth in fraternal woyk, the lodge sys-
tém and how it gives every member a
chance to voice his opinions, and urged
the members to do their best and co-
operate with the organizers in securing
new members. He also talked on Pro-
gressive investments and the member-
ship of the SPJST. Brother Marek pre-
sented his address in both the Czech
and English language so that everyone
at the meeting benefited by it.
Brother Pokladník spoke briefly and
urged the delegates to do their best
at the next convention not for thern-
selves but for their lodges, districts,
and espeeially for the SPJST as a whole.
He also brought up the need for better
understanding among the members of
our organization.
Brother Hrabina called on the nomi-
nating committee for nominations for
district officers for the coming year.
Brother Pokladník presented the com-
mittee nominations and added that all
nominations from the floor would be
welcome. The following were recom-
mended and elected by acelamatíon:
President: Brother Qtto Hanuš, Waco;
First Vice President, Walter Hejl, Fort
Worth; Second Vice President, Joe Ju-
ran, Fort Worth; Secretary, Sister Rose
Parma, Waco; Treasurer, Brother Ar-
nold Vrla, Dallas; Flag Bearer, AI vin
Nesudá, Ennis.
The dáte of the next meeting will be
deeided by Lodge No. 130 of Dallas,
Texas, where the next district meeting
is to be held. Brother Hrabina thanked
everyone in our district, visiting dis-
tricts, and the Supreme Lodge officers
for the wonderful attendance and for
the wonderful cooperation they all gave
in makán g this meeting successful. He
expressed thanks to Lodge Jaromír No.
54 for the wonderful hospitality.
