When He Wants to
Lapse
Doing everything possible to keep the
life insuranee in force is an important
part of the salesman’s job. Here are
some .suggestions to use when you háve
to talk with a policyholder who is think-
ing of lapsing a policy:
ASK him why he feels he wants to
cancel. Then keep quiet and let him talk.
NEXT, ask him why he purchased the
insuranee originally. This is where
sound prospecting and good originál
selling are a big aid. 'Lvm:
ASK him if the problém he wanted to
solve still exlsts. Usually it does.
IF the originál need is gone, find out
if he has any other needs which thé * 1
insuranee might cover. Make a reál ef-
fořt to seli hinn on using the policy tq
cover these other needs. Make him want
to keep the protection. ‘
AS a last resort find out if changlng
the policy to a lower prémium forín or
reducing its face amount will help/1 'A'1;
reduced policy is better than none. ’
IF the decision is that he really miist ‘
lapse or surrender, make sure that he :
understands all his options. Many k
family has been kept together by the'
proceeds of paid-up or extended teťmu
insuranee.—Equitable Agency Items. ..;p
