Rotary hears of charitable funds
By Robyn Wheeler
Monitor Staff Writer
GUN BARREL CIT Y-
Rotarians heard about
charitable giving and trans-
fer of wealth (TOW) at
their recent meeting by
East Texas Communities
Foundation (ETCF) presi-
dent Kyle Penny.
“The ETCF was created
to help nonprofits be more
efficient and achieve their
goals,” Penny said.
“It allows nonprofits to
focus on what they do
best,” he added.
Penny has been with the
501(c)3 organization for
six years and says the
ETCF serves 182 chari-
table funds in 32 countries.
In 2011, the ETCF dis-
tributed more than $4 mil-
lion dollars to nonprofit
organizations.
“We exist to support
philanthropy by offering
simple ways for donors to
achieve their long-term
charitable goals,” Penny
said.
Several funds are avail-
able through ETCF such
as donor-advised funds,
nonprofit endowment
funds, donor-designated
funds, scholarship funds
and field of interest funds.
As far as TOW, Penny
says accepted assets in-
clude cash, real estate,
personal property, stocks
and business interests.
According to ETCF the
wealth transfer in east
Texas alone in 2010 was
worth $72.3 billion.
“No matter what we
accumulate in life, it all
stays here,” Penny said
stressing why transfer of
wealth is important.
According to the ETCF,
the population for the high-
est TOW is old wealth (in-
heritance), closely-held
family businesses, thirty
retirees and higher-income
professionals.
East Texas Communi-
ties Foundation is located
at 315 N. Broadway,
Suite 210, in Tyler.
