The Texas Freshwater
Fisheries Center in Ath-
ens will host a bird and
nature walk from 9 to 11
a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.
On the monthly bird
watching outing you can
expect to see 25 or more
different species as you
explore the interpretive
Wetland Trail and other
areas of the hatchery.
Bring binoculars and field
guide if you have them
(not required).
Beginner’s Fly-
Fishing Class
The Texas Freshwater
Fisheries Center will
host a beginners' fly-fish-
ing class from 9 to 1 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 9.
Expert fly-fisher Bob
Cappallo will teach the
fly-fishing for beginners
course.
The class is open to
adults 18 years and
older. No fly-fishing ex-
perience is required and
equipment provided.
The cost of the course
is $50, and includes en-
trance, lunch and an an-
nual pass to the facility.
The class is limited to
20 people and advance
reservations are re-
quired.

KEMP-The Kemp
Lady Yellowjackets were
narrowly defeated, 40-34,
by Life Oak Cliff Tues-
day.
“Even in a loss there
were a lot of positives in
this game,” Kemp head
coach Zach Burleson
said. “We have continued
our improvement defen-
sively and our rebounding
is getting there.”
Bree Weisinger led the
Lady ’Jackets with 11
points, and Bri Degrate
followed with eight points.
Lacie Henderson led
Kemp’s rebounding with
eight.
“Life Oak Cliff is real
good. They are 8-0 in dis-
trict,” Burleson noted.
“We had our chances to
win this game. We did a
good job and have noth-
ing to be down about. I’m
proud of the way we have
played lately.”
The loss give the Lady
Yellowjackets a 13-12
overall record, and a 4-4
district mark.
They visited Scurry Fri-
day, and will host Dallas’
Faith Family Tuesday.
“We have a shot at mak-
ing the playoffs,” Burleson
said.
“If we continue improv-
ing on the glass and de-
fensively, we can get
there.”

EUSTACE-The Eus-
tace Lady Bulldogs
played a strong defensive
game to beat Faith F am-
ily, 50-12, Tuesday.
“I thought that the girls
played well as a team,”
Eustace head coach
DaLinda Cassell said.
“We did a good job, de-
fensively, allowing one
shot,” she added.
Eustace allowed Faith
Family no points in the first
period, but scored 12 for
themselves.
The Lady ’Dog offense
racked up 22 points in the
second period, while F aith
mustered just six points.
Both teams scored six
points in the third period,
and the Eustace defense
shut down F aith F amily’s
offense in the final period,
allowing just two points.
Meanwhile, Eustace
added 10 points to the
board.
“I was pleased with
their effort and I am
looking forward to the
second round of dis-
trict,” Cassell com-
mented.
Kacie Richards led the
Lady Bulldog offense
with 17 points, and
Alexis Cravey followed
with 10 points.
Eustace traveled to
Palmer to face the Lady
Bulldogs Friday, and will
visit the Malakoff Lady
Tigers Tuesday.

Jerrod Chamberlain Memorial Golf Tournament winners

KEMP-The Jerrod Chamber-
lain Memorial Golf Tournament
was held Jan. 12, at Kings Creek
Country Club.
Taking first place in the tour-
nament, and winning $500, was
the team of Jean Hickson, Boyse
Wood, Billy Hickson, and John
Haney. They returned $100 of
their prize money as a donation.
Winning second place, and
$300, was the team of Michael
Furr, Michael Davis, Kevin Dale
Freeman, Jeff Patterson.
The third place team, winning
$200, was the team of Jerrod
Elzner, Katie Hibbs, Buddy
Hibbs, Daniel Hibbs.
