A public hearing was held at the
CCISD school board meeting Tuesday
night to discuss the district’s performance
on the 2010-11 Financial Integrity Rating
System of Texas (FIRST).
CCISD scored 69 out of 70 points
earning the district a superior achievement
rating. CCISD lost one point for having 36
more employees than recommended for the
district.
The school board also recognized the
Pride of Cove band during the Tuesday
meeting for their exceptional performance
at the Central Texas Regional Competition.
The Pride of Cove received the highest
score out of 15 bands; their score was also
the fifth highest out of the 185 marching
bands in the United States.
Several students were also recognized
during the meeting for their achievement
on the Advanced Placement (AP) Exams.
Ten Copperas Cove High School seniors
earned the AP Scholar awards. Eight of the
students were present during the meeting,
along with their family and friends.
Five teachers also received apprecia-
tion awards during the meeting. The teach-
ers were nominated by their students for
their hard work and student support.
Sheryl Bierschwale, Angela Jandreau, Pati-
na Harrell, Dejah Bushong and Kristen
Prosper were presented with awards by Dr.
Joe Bums, CCISD superintendent.
Joe Bums also accepted a donation to
CCISD of $30,649 from the Copperas
Cove Education Foundation. The donation
will be used towards 9 Teacher Grants.
More information will be presented at a
later date.

council approved letting the
organization use it as a place to
help veterans in the communi-
ty-
Councilman Gary Kent
mentioned that he and city
manager Andrea Gardner went
to Washington, D.C., to dis-
cuss some of the issues that
concern Copperas Cove resi-
dents with politicians.
The council also discussed
an agreement with the Full
Throttle Grill to open at the
Hills of Cove Golf Course.
The council also touched on
the alcohol license at the golf
course. The Full Throttle Bar
and Grill will open at the golf
course, and councilman Danny
Palmer said he wanted people
to know that the city would
retain the right to sell alcohol
there.
