Presidential Volunteer Service Award
Background
After the age of 13 you can log your hours yourself online at www.presiden-
tialserviceawards.gov. The key you use is VQH-45722.
America has a long and proud tradition of volunteer Service. Now more
than ever, volunteers are renewing their commitment to help others and making
new connections that bring us closer together as families, as neighbors, as commu-
nities and as a nation. The Presidenťs Council on
Service and Civic Participation was established in
2003 to recognize the valuable contributions volun-
teers are making in our communities and encourage
more people to serve. The Council created the
Presidenťs Volunteer Service Award program as a
way to thank and honor Americans who, by their
demonstrated commitment and example, inspire oth-
ers to engage in volunteer Service. Recognizing and
honoring volunteers sets a standard for Service,
encourages a sustained commitment to civic partici-
pation and inspires others to make Service a centrál part of their li ves.

How Do You Apply?
The SPJST Youth Program is sponsoring the Presidenťs Volunteer Service Awards
for all SPJST youth who are eligible to receive the awards. First you must volun-
teer! Some examples of volunteer Service projects would be donating your time to
a local food pantry or joining the Docent Program at the Czech Heritage Museum.
Up until the age of 13 SPJST will log your hours for you.
1. Can a seven year old youth member receive an award?_
2. What year was the Presidenťs Volunteer Award established?_
3. How many hours would a nine year old need for a Gold Level Award?_
4. After you turn 14, how do you log your hours?_
