Earn Some Volunteer Hours
This Summer!
The Czech Heritage Museum and
Genealogy Center has announced a
new program to pro vide a new leam-
ing opportunity for our youth, the Jun-
ior Docent program. This program is
designed for boys and girls ages 14 to
18. A Junior Docent will receive train-
ing on greeting visitors, assisting with
curating and curating maintenance,
and how to give guided tours. You will
also háve an opportunity to learn how
the museum preserves the history of
our ancestors through artifacts, photo-
graphs, textiles, books, music, and
much more. And, by the way — in
čase you were wondering — the word
“docent” means a person who acts as
a knowledgeable guide in a museum.
Iťs derived from the German word
“dozent,” which translated means “to
teach.” Cool!
This volunteer program will begin
in June and continue through the sum-
mer. Young people interested in the
Junior Docent program will need to
commit to volunteer for six hours once
a week. These hours can also be ušed
towards your Czech heritage merit
points. Whaťs more—this program
will pro vide you with invaluable com-
munity Service that could be included
on applications for college, honor so-
cieties, awards, scholarships, or future
employment. For more information or
if you are interested in applying for the
program, please call the museum at
(254) 899-2935.1 háve also included a
letter to send home with interested
youth members and their parents. You
do not háve to be a youth club member
to apply.

Congratulations,
OneAct Play
iA State Champion
Rogers High School!
Wow! What a blessing! This
year, Rogers OneAct Play is a statě
Champion again! Last year, when
we won statě, 1 was on crew back-
stage, and this year, I had the honor
to be on stage. Rogers was the first
school in UIL history to receive
straight ones at the statě level.
And, this year again, we received
straight ones! What a way to end
my senior year!
At graduation, I will be wearing
five proud medals! I am also a part
of National Honor Society for three
years now, graduating with honors,
and in the top 10 percent of the
class! Wow! How God has blessed
me in my high school years.
With high school and State King
reign coming to a close, Tm going
to miss doing and being a part of a
lot of things. I háve been told these
past two years, “Iťs not about the
winning and all the medals, iťs
about the memories that were cre-
ated.” So my advice, don’t miss
any opportunities!!
Fratemally,
Jerry Pechal
