FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK
Something to
Believe in
Life’s Seven Wonders
Thanks to Sisíer Marian Kadlecek
of Lodge 88, Houston for sharing with
me the story of a group of students
who were asked to list what they
thought were the present “Seven
Wonders of the World.” Though there
were some disagreements, the follow-
ing received the most votes:
1. Egypťs Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter’s Basilica
7. China's Great Wall
While gathering
the votes, the
teacher noted that
one student had
not finished her
páper yet. So she
asked the girl if
she was having
trouble with her
list. The girl
replied, “Yes, a lit-
tle. I couldn't
quite make up my
mind because
there were so
many.”
The teacher
said, “Well, telí uf
what you háve,
and maybe we can
help.” The girl
hesitated, then
read, “I think the
‘Seven Wonders
of the World are:
1. ToSee
2. To Hear
3. To Touch
4. To Taste
5. To Feel
6. To Laugh
7. And to Love.”
The room was so quiet you could
háve heard a pin drop. The things we
overlook as simple and ordinary and
that we také for granted are truly won-
drous! A gentle reminder—that the
most precious things in life cannot be
built by hand or bought by man.
Something we hear a lot about dur-
ing the hoíidays is Christmas spirit. It
ties in dosely with what that little girl
in the story had to say. Iťs about car-
ing. Iťs about giving. And, iťs about
believing in the good of mankind.
Sounds a little like fratemalism, does-
n’t it?
Several years ago, I ran across a
short interview with one of the holiday
season’s all time fratemalists —- Santa
Claus. A portion of that interview is
reprinted below. I doiťt know who
wrote it; however, I want to thank the
anonymous source and to all of you
who are helping to keep the spirit of
Christmas alive. May the hope and joy
of this holiday season be with you now
ánd ťnroughTMdNeW Year.
Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year!

and Samuel Vaniček
A Talk With Santa
How old are you?
A long time ago I stopped counting
the years that measure my age. I am
very, very old. I am more than a hun-
dred years old. I háve been around
since your mother was a little child. I
was also around when your grandma
was a child.
I will be around when your child
will be bom and I will try to make your
child happy on Christmas just like I
want to do everything I can to make
you happy this Christmas.
My life is dedicated to make all the
children in this world happy on
Christmas. Each
child who loves to
háve me around
has made my life
complete. for
every child that I
can make happy
for only a few sec-
onds on Christmas
I will live longer.
If you like hav-
ing me around on
Christmas, care
about me and
enjoy my exis-
tence, then you are
giving me more
years to live.
Do you make all
the presents?
In the old days,
we made all the
presents. Today,
we make some of
the gifts ourselves,
but we get support
: from our friends
and relatives all over the world to fin-
ish up the rest of them. We are capa-
ble of doing a lot of things but there
are still always a lot of wishes from
kids that simply can not be fulfilled . .
. You can send me your list of wishes
and I will see what I can do about it,
Do you háve relatives?
Oh, yes. I háve a lot of relatives.
They are located all over the world.
They are very important to us and we
love them a lot. Our relatives are our
greatest supporters and we couldn’t do
all the things before Christmas if they
wouldnh be helping us. Do you know
about Santa Claus’s relatives in our
neighborhood?
There is at least one!

ible month! Watch for Mission 2003
