directions and schedule of events on page

wil! follow in the coming weeks. The
dáte and location of your district meeting
is posted on page four.
Within the SPJST, the spring meeting
concept was con-
ceived as a way to
provide the member-
ship with an
overview of the
Society ’s perfor-
mance during the
previous year and to
define the Society ’s
course of direction
for the coming year.
An effectíve spring
meeting can help to
reestablish a sense of
purpose and direc-
tion within a district.
Moreover, iťs an
excelient opportunity
to buiíd a more effective working rela-
tionship between ali branches of SPJST
membership and leadership.
Based on that short definition, you
should be able to expect at ieast three
basic areas of operations to be addressed
at your spring district meeting:
1. Information on existing and new
SPJST insurance, lending, and fra-
temal Services and programs;
2. Information and explanation of
the previous years financiaí and fra-
ternal performance on a statewide
and district leve!; and
3. Information on managemenťs
operational business objectives and
insights into the members roles in
supporting these objectives.
Who specifically, is responsible for
relaying this information is of secondary
importance. Whaťs important is that the

with these topics.
Something to consider: The 1996
SPJST Convention will be here in June.
Over the course of three or four days, the
Society will address an extraordinary
amount of important and complex busi-
ness issues. If for no other reason, it is
important that we—and especially our
local lodge dele-
gates—stav informed
of business matters
affecting the SPJST.
Too often I háve
heard it expressed that
the “average SPJST
member” is not in a
good position to make
decisions that will
affect the future of our
Society. Well, if thaťs
true, tlien leťs také
every opportunity to
bring the average
member “up to speed”
on matters of Society
business. And what
better plače to start than at our spring dis-
trict meetings!
Let Talk About It
Unless you deal with life insurance
regularly, it can be a very intimidating
and difficult subject to discuss. It is for
that very reason that we need to routinely
discuss and explain the many practical
benefits of the life insurance products
offered by the SPJST.
Unlike various investment options, life
insurance doesiťt háve a high degree of
risk involved. Your benefits are guaran-
teed to the day and to the dollar. Young
men and women—especially—should
seize the day and examine their future
needs. They’ll ťind that they can get
more protection for their money now than
if they buy it in later years. Moreover,
they’re almost certainly insurable now—a
reál issues be addressed and that you be situation that could change on down the
given the opportunity to ask questions line. Older members, too, may want to
about any items relative to the growth and talk with their local lodge saies represen-

In addition to conducting the regular
and essential business of the district, who-

consider allotting some time for members
