Bobby L. Wuensche announces
candidacy for District Two Director
Dear Members
and Delegates of District Two,
It has been an enjoyable experience
serving as the District Two Director for
the past eight years. I háve leamed that
it takés teamwork to keep SPJST going
in the right direction.
At times, the Supreme Lodge has
had to make some changes in the di-
rection that SPJST was going. Some
of those decisions were not always
easy to make. It took the efforts of all
the officers and directors working to-
gether to make those changes. It is
through those ups and downs that we
háve come to be a more experienced
group.
Considering today’s economy being
what it is, I feel that SPJST is staying
strong. We háve overcome many losses
and thus showed a positive gain for the
year.
I háve had the pleasure of meeting
and enjoying the fellowship of many
wonderful members of District Two. I
will always treasure the fdendships that
I háve come to know.
I ask for your support at the 3 lst
SPJST Convention, so that I can be a part
of making SPJST grow into the future.
Fratemally,
Bobby L. Wuensche

Remember our Fallen Soldiers
Monday, May 28 is Memoriál Day
Please remember all of our fallen
soldiers and also, remember our troops
overseas and at home. Memoriál Day
was first observed on May 30, 1868,
when flowers were placed on the
graves of Union and Confederate Sol-
diers at Arlington National Cemetery.
To help reeducate and remind Ameri-
cans of the trne meaning of Memoriál
Day, the “National Moment of Re-
membrance” resolution was passed in
2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local
time, for all Americans to voluntarily
and informally observe in their own
way a moment of remembrance and re-
spect, pausing from whatever they are
doing for a moment of silence or lis-
tening to “Taps.”

copy, please do so soon to be sure that
you will háve one or two books. Also
keep in mind that these books make
great gift items (graduation, Mother’s
Day, weddings, birthdays, etc., and of

is only eight short months away).
MotheUs Day
The month of May is a very busy
month. The most important dáte to re-
member will be May 13. Mother’s
Day is a speciál dáte for many. The
United States celebrates Mother’s Day
on the second Sunday in May. In the
1880s and 1890s, there were several at-
tempts to establish a Mother’s Day, but
they didn’t succeed beyond the local
level. The holiday was created by
Anna Jarvis in Grafton, West Virginia,
in 1908 as a day to honor one’s mother.
Jarvis wanted to accomplish her
mother ’s dream of making a celebra-
tion for all mothers, although the idea
didn’t také off until she enlisted the
Services of wealthy Philadelphia mer-
chant John Wanamaker. She kept pro-
moting the holiday until President
Woodrow Wilson made it an official
national holiday in 1914. The holiday
eventually became so highly commer-
cialized that many, including its
founder, Anna Jarvis, considered it a
“HaHmark Holiday,” one with an over-
whelming commercial purpose. Jarvis
eventually ended up opposing the hol-
iday she had helped to create. She died
in 1948, regretting what had become of
her holiday. In the United States,
Mother ’s Day remains one of the
biggest days for sales of flowers, greet-
ing cards, and the like; it is also the
biggest holiday for long-distance tele-
phone calls.
Please remember all of our mothers
and mothers-to-be this month by hon-
oring them at your May meeting. They
do so much in every day life without
being thanked as often as they should
be.
