VĚSTNÍK
EDITOR’S TRAVEL AND MEETINGS
Editor/Director of Communication Zavodny gave a detailed report of travel and
meetings.
VĚSTNÍK report
Editor/Director of Communication Zavodny reported on various matters per-
taining to the Vestnik.
SPJST FLOATS
Editor/Director of Communication Zavodny reported on float appearances this
quarter and 18 scheduled appearances in parades and events.
ACTIVITIES AND MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Editor/Director of Communication Zavodny reported on annual lodge mailings,
lodge/youth club media assistance, Tribute 2012 promotions, SPJST Awards Ban-
quet, Vestnik Valentines, term rate sheets, and her presentation at TCGS’ annual
meeting.
Editor/Director of Communication Zavodny also reported on numerous activities
in progress.
Recess for the day was taken at 5:05 p.m. until 8 a.m. on April 18,2012.
Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska opened the meeting with prayer.
Jesse Pospisil, a member of Lodge 29, Taylor, was present.
Human Resource Administrátor Klinkovsky was present to give the human re-
sources report.
RISK MANAGEMENT
Human Resource Administrátor Klinkovsky reviewed a report on various insur-
ance policy coverages insuring the Society. The matter of Errors and Omission
coverage for sales agents was discussed. Cost and coverage were the focus of the
discussion.
It was decided that more information is needed, and the matter was postponed
pending receipt of more information and details on the terms of insurance cov-
erage.
GROUP HEALTHCARE COVERAGE
The matter of employees’ group health/life/long-term disability coverage was
taken up. Human Resource Administrátor Klinkovsky reviewed an analysis cost
over the past four years.
Recess was taken from 8:58 until 9:25 a.m.
The Supreme Lodge went into executive session from 9:25 until 9:45 a.m.
INVESTMENT REPORT
Buddie Ballard of Alpha Capital Management was present to review a quarterly
report of SPJST’s investment portfolio. The report was extensively reviewed.
Vice Chairman Ahlstrom was asked to chair the meeting. Various reports were re-
viewed and performance information was shared. The chair was returned to
Chairman Victorick.
Reports indicated that the market value of the portfolio exceeds the book value
by near $5 million. Statutory book yield as of March 30, 2012, is 5.99 percent.
The Investment Policy Statement (IPS) was brought up for review. Director
Pflughaupt moved approval of the changes to the IPS as proposed including the
action to liquidate all non-investment grade bonds within 30 days of each down-
grade. Motion was seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska. During discus-
sion, it was pointed out that due to vast improvement of the quality of our
portfolio, it was now feasible to liquidate the few remaining non-investment grade
legacy bonds left from past years. Vote was taken, and the motion carried unan-
imously.
Recess was taken from 11:20 until 11:35 a.m.
STATE YOUTH DIRECTOR’S REPORT
State Youth Director Frank Horák reviewed his detailed report. He distributed
youth club reports and itemized listing of allocations. He also reviewed his daily
time record and activities during the quarter.
President Vaniček moved that working with State Youth Director Horák, he will
establish a common audit form for District Youth Counselors to be presented in
the July Supreme Lodge meeting. Motion was seconded by Director Pflughaupt
and carried unanimously.
State Youth Director Horák is preparing Leader-in-Training and Youth Leaders’
Workshop handouts. Various Supreme Lodge members complimented State
Youth Director Horák on the fine job that he is doing.
Recess for lunch was taken from 12:10 until 1 p.m.
EMPLOYEE SERVICE AWARD
Sandra Dubcak was honored and presented a 15-year Service award. She serves
as Executive Assistant to the President. President Vaniček praised Sandra for her
outstanding Service to SPJST, and she responded accordingly.
NEW EMPLOYEE
New employee Susan Neal was introduced by Financial Secretary Vajdak. Susan
serves as Accounting Assistant.
STATE FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR’S REPORT
State Fratemal Activities Coordinator (SFAC) Chester Jenke presented his report
for the quarter. He reviewed his attendance of lodge meetings and activities.
SFAC Jenke shared a list of goals for the coming months. He distributed a list of
30 lodges that will be participating in Join Hands Day events.
SFAC Jenke was thanked for doing an outstanding job.
INCENTIVE PROGRAM - 2012
The finál guidelines for the lodge incentive program were reviewed as corrected.
NEW BUSINESS
SPJST MODEL LODGE PROGRAM
President Vaniček discussed a prepared presentation of the SPJST Model Lodge
Program. The goal is to present the program at every lodge. The program is not
connected with any incentive program.
NATIONAL CZECH AND SLOVÁK MUSEUM AND LIBRARY
President Vaniček reported on an invitation to attend the grand opening of the
Czech and Slovák Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The dates of the
events are July 14 and 15,2012. Director Pflughaupt moved that President Van-
iček and his wife Joan be authorized to attend. Director Ahlstrom seconded, and
the motion carried unanimously.
SCHOLARSHIPS
There was discussion about SPJST scholarships. Financial Secretary Vajdak was
auditing the funds received and distributed and would soon announce the amount
of funds that would be available.
SERVICING UNIVERSAL LIFE CERTIFICATES
Vice President McBride presented a report on the status of servicing Universal
Life certificates. It was determined that a standardized response form be ušed to
document the servicing contact.
AGENT SPRING CLASSES
Vice President McBride reported he has completed sales classes in four districts.
He stated he intends to begin new methods of training contacts by using webinars.
