King Samuel Vaniček, both of Lodge 24, Cyclone, and Queen Jacqueline
Klaus and Duchess Chandee Bachmeyer, both of Lodge 29, Taylor. They

Approximately 250 SPJST youth
from across Texas met at the Frank W.
Maybom Convention Center in Tem-
ple, Texas, on Saturday, August 7 to
showcase their knowledge and skills at
SPJST State Youth Achievement Day
(YAD).
The 2010 competition involved par-
ticipants ages six to high school senior.
They competed in 15 events, testing
their skills in areas such as construc-
tion, foods, handicraft, photography,
sewing, public speaking, and talent.
The event also featured a speciál cate-
gory which is always a surprise until
the day of the competition. This year,
participants were each given a white
sheet of páper and an assortment of art
supplies to display SPJST.
District and State YADs allow
SPJST youth club members to demon-
strate their knowledge and skills and
gain recognition for their achieve-
ments. As the youth compete, they de-
velop self-confidence and sharpen
their decision-making abilities. They
also háve a chance to socialize with
other youth club members.
SPJST State YAD is the culmina-
tion of a year of hard work by some of
the best and brightest SPJST youth
club members.
Winners of SPJST District YAD
competitions across Texas qualify to
compete at the statě contest. Seven
District YADs were held in June and
July in Caldwell, Taylor, Arlington,

District Two Youth Counselor Patsy
Koslovsky is astounded as the
State Royalty results are an-
nounced. Iťs been 31 years since
both State King and Queen were
from District Two; 24 years since a
State Queen was from District
Two; and 14 years since District
Two yielded a State King.
