Administrátor Dianě Volek has 24

“In the years I’ve been here, I’ve
had the chance to know some very
interesting and colorful people,” says
Ms. Volek. “Being able to help the
residents cope with their challenges
makes it a very rewarding job.”
How It All Started
“The whole idea is to run the home
for the comfort of the individual
guest,” says Mr. Balusek “We want
each guest ío feel that this is his or her
home.”
The idea to build the S.P.J.S.T. rest
homes — first in Taylor and later in
Needville — was initiated at the
SPJST’s 1956 convention in Temple.
“SPJST members saw a reál need to
build a home — in purpose and in spir-
it — for some of its aging members,”
Mr. Balusek says. “So, they authorized
the creation and organization of a seif-
goveming and independent Corporation

dents for the new facility will be admitted on a first-

and granted $100,000 to this purpose,”
he continues.
To this day, the management of the
rest homes rest in the hands of seven
directors — one from each district.
The new assisted living facility will
be constructed on the east side of the
existing nursing home and is designed
to accommodate for future expansion.
According to Mr. Balusek, there’s
already a waiting list of people to
check in. At last count there were 25
names on the list.
In accordance with the rest home?s
by-laws, residents for the new assisting
living facility will be admitted on a
first-come, first-served basis. As stated
in the home’s by-laws, “Every applica-
tion made by members of the Order for
admittance to the Home shall be taken
into consideration, but it shall in no čase
be made the basis of any preference on
account of membership in SPJST.”
“I would encourage SPJST mem-
bers interested in becoming a part of
our community, to visit us in Taylor,
write or call me for an application,”
Mr. Richards says. ‘That will get you
on the waiting list and put you in a
better position to check in some day.
Iťs never really too early to get on the
list.” For more Information on the
