Meeting
Dear Members of District lil:
We hope each of you wiíl make
plans to atíend íhe fall meeting hosted
by Lodge No. 135 in Ennis, Texas on
September 24, 1989.
The district meeting is so important
to our fraternal life and wonderfu!
opportunity to be with brothers and
sisters from ether lodges for fun and
sociais, aiso a chance to exchange ideas
and helpful suggestions for your iocai
lodges.
Our lodges are failing short on ťneir
attendance and I musí stress to all
members how important it is to
represení your lodge and concerns on
the district level. ■

Lodge No. 24,
Cyclone
The regular monthly meeting of
SPJST Lodge 24 was held Sunday
aíternoon, August 13th. Our
attendance was up slightly for this
meeting. Thanks to those interested
members who participated in the
meeting.
A moment of silence was observed
in memory of Gus Motl who passed
away recently. Mr. Motl was the
brother of Lottie Luksa. Our deepest
sympathy to the family of Mr. Motl;
also, our deepest sympathy to the
family of Mr. Gus Motl who also died
recently. Mr. Motl was the brother of
Maríha Zavodny and Evelyn Henson.
On the sick list this month are Mr.
L.B. Haisler, David Šebek (who broke
his hand), Clayton Cabla and Edwin
Milian. Best wishes for a speedy
recovery to all these fine members.
Speciál days this month for speciál
people are: Birthdays - Milton
Zavodny (August 6), Timothy Psencik
(August 8), Joe Šebek (August 20) and
Clayton Cabla (August 30).
Anniversaries: Paulině and Kenneth
Marek (August 8), Mark and Valerie
Šebek (August 19). Congratulations to
all these members. We wish you many
happy days.
Speciál guest at our meeting was Dr.
Gilbert Foster, dermatologist from
Scotí and White. Dr. Foster presented
a very in formative slide presentation
and talk pertaining to skin cancer. One
of the main things he stressed to us
was: WATCH OUT FOR THE SUN!
IT CAN BE DEADLY.
Mark your calendars for September
24th. The District II meeting will be
held that day at Seaton Star Halí. Our
lodge is in charge of the horsesnoe
contest.
If anyone is interested in going to
the Dallas Fair on October 15 which is
Czech Day at the fair, please contact
LaVerne Cabla as soon as possible. We
would like to charter a bus to go to the
fair, but we need enough people to
make a bus load.
Also, October lst is Czech Fraternal
Fest Day at the Expo Center in Belton,
Texas. Pian to attend.
Youth Club Member Mark Macek
presented his District II First Prize
Talent to our membership. Mark
compeíed at the State Youth
Achievement Day in Temple on
August 27th.
Dooř prizes were won by Maríha
Zavodny and Wilbert Mikeska. Our
next meeting is Sunday, September
lOth. Pian to attend. The youth dub
will be serving lefťover barbecue
chicken from their receet fundraiser.
Ladies, please bring a salad or dessert.

An Invitation To
Lodge No. 39, Bryan
Festival
You are invited to participate in the
Annual Arts and Crafts Czech Festival
at the SPJST Lodge No. 39 on
Saturday, September 30th, from 9
a.m. to 6 p.m. in Bryan, Texas. It will
be held on the lodge grounds, off
Texas Highway 21 West, near the
Texas A&M Riverside Campus (the
Smetana community). We are hoping
that this yeaťs festival will be even
more successful than last year.
A variety of entertainment is being
planned. The festival will include a full
day of activities featuring arts and
crafts, live music and dancers, a Czech
museum, kolache, children’s activities,
and much more.
Booth assignments will be made on a
first come, first, served basis, upon
receipt of application and fee. The
application should be completed and
returned no later than September 17th.
Latě applications will be accepted as

Due to the crowded conditions last
year, and an anticipated inerease in
attendance, all booths will be
outdoors.
All booth spaces (10’xl0”) will be
$30 each. Each vendor is responsibíe
for providing his - her own booth,
display equipment and cleanup. Set -
up begins at 7 a.m.
Food booths are welcome, and will
be restricted to a spécific area. All
booth spaces will be posted at the
information stand the day of the
festival.

Schedules Festival
Activities
Dear Fellow Lodge Members:
Plans for our second Annual SPJST
Arts and Crafts Czech Festival are now
underway. The event has been
scheduied for Saturday, September
3Qth from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the
lodge grounds. We are hoping that this
yearis festival will be even more
successful than last year. A variety of
entertainment is being. planned. The
festival will include a full day of
activities featuring arts and crafts
(with vendors from throughout the
statě), live music, a Czech museum,
kolache, a variety of food booths,
children’s activities, and much more.
There is no admission charge to the
festival, however, we will conclude the
day’s festivities with a dance featuring
the ever - popular polka and waltz
music, to which there will be a generál
admission charge.
This type of event takés many hours
of dedication and hard work on the
part of our lodge. I will be calling on
you for your assistance in various
areas as plans continue to progress.
Therefore, I thought you may like to
mark the dáte of the festival on your
calendars. Although, it may seem
eariy, time seems to pass all too
quickly. If I fail to contact you and
you are willing to work at the festival,

Lodge No. 40,
El Campo-Hillje
The regular monthly meeting was
held on Monday, August 21, 1989,
following the games.
President Rita Vaněk called the
meeting to order and led the members
in the Pledge of Allegiance after which
she asked members to remain standing
in silence for a moment in memory of
our departed members.
Secretary Leona Macha called roli
of officers; all present except Trustee
James Bacak.
The minutes of our previous meeting
held on July 17, 1989 were read and
approved.
Corrěspondence were read; a thank
you notě from Scholarship Recipient
Doyle Miller, name change from
Shirley R. Waters to Shirley R.
Brinson; new Insurance annuities
report for July and letter from
Supreme Lodge President Howard
Leshikar regarding SPJST Czech
Fraternal Fest to be held October 1,
1989 at Belton, Texas,
Report from 2nd Vice President and
Fraternal Activities Coordinator and
then Dora Lee appointed a committee
to select nominees for Fraternalist of
the Year — Chairman Delores
Valigura, Leona Macha and Mary Ann
Karasek.
Treasurer Madeline Shimek gave the
řinancial report for July, 1989. A copy
of complete report on filé and subject
to audit.
Youth Leader Mary Ann Karasek
reported on District IV YAD held
August 13, 1989 and hosted by our
lodge. She thanked everyone for their
help in making their YAD so
successful.
The lodge members approved a $100
coníribution to Pilot Club of El
Campo for the Jacuzzi Fund at
Meadow Lané School and a $200
coníribution to our youth club.
Rita Vaněk announced our lodge
will host District VI Sociál on October
29, 1989.
With no further business, the
meeting adjourned with Delores
Valigura winning the dooř prize.

Lodge 51, Ellinger To
Honor Members
The SPJST Lodge No. 51 of Ellinger
will háve a picnic on September 17th at
the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce
Halí. There is no charge to active
members. Household members of
active members will be charged $2
each; inactive members and guests will
be charged $3 each.
Registration begins at
approximately 10:30 a.m.; happy hour
will be held at 12 noon with a barbecue
chicken and sausage meal, with all the
accompanying dishes being served at
12:30 p.m.
A business meeting will be held at
1:30 p.m. Presentation of 50 - year
pins of 4 local members will be made
by District Director Andrew Vavra of
Caldwell. All members and families
are asked to come and enjoy the day.

Second Quarterly
Meeting Of Lodge
No. 54, West
President Ted Kocian called the
second quarterly meeting of 1989 to
order at 7 p.m. on June 16th.
The Pledge of Allegiance to our
flag, led by President Kocian, was
recited and a moment of silence was
observed in memory of Brother John
J. Mynář who died April 22, 1989 and
Brother Andrew J. Gajdica who died
May 20, 1989.
Brother John Mynar will be míssed
by all of us; he was a very active
member of our lodge and also was a
sales representative.
Secretary Anně Emery read the
minutes of the March 12th meeting
which were approved as read.
Financial Secretary Maxine Sefcik
presented her report which was
approved as read. She reported that we
háve gained six new juvenile members,
námely, Kayla Jackson, Brian Kaluza,
Shane Kaluza, Arin Paige, Holly
Sinkule and Callie Vrba and three new
adult members, John Jackson, James
Kaluza and Natasha Tichavsky. Our
membership now includes 339 active
members and 319 paid-up members for
a total of 658.
A round of applause was given to
Sales Representative Freddie Kaluza
for his fine effort in selling these
policies.
Treasurer Freddie Kaluza gave the
treasurer’s report which was approved
as read.
Friday night seems to be a very
satisfactory night to conduct our
meetings. The next quarterly meeting
will be held on September 8th at 7 p.m.
in Lone Star Halí. All members are
urged to attend.
The dooř prize was won by Sister
Josephine Kocian.
The meeting was adjourned and
everyone enjoyed refreshments and
fellowship.
