State Fair Joins Generations
Mary Ann and Wilbert Ruzicka, left, are pictured with their son and
daughter-in-law, Travis and Jennifer Ruzicka, their eight-month-old
grandson, Ryan (being held by Travis), and Ann Magness (Jennifer’s
mother). The Ruzickas are a four-generation SPJST family. Wilbert,
Mary Ann, Travis, and Ryan are all members of Lodge 84, Dallas.
Wilberťs parents, Jim and Frances Ruzicka (both now deceased),
were members of Lodge 24, Cyclone.
Ennis Sewing
Circle
The Ennis Sewing Circle met on
October 13, 2005, with 19 members
and six guests present—Lydia
Alholm, Mary Ann Kozel, Rose
Steinman, Cathy Vande Eykel, Linda
Waldo, and Ernest Máchovsky.
President Sadie Kubin called the
meeting to order, the Pledge of
Allegiance was recited by all, and a
moment of silence was held for our
dear Liddie Pavelka.
Vlasta Laznovsky read the min-
utes, and Lillie Kosarek gave the
treasurer’s report. Both were
approved as read.
Dorothy Prachyl read a thank you
notě from the Tabernacle Baptist
Church for our donation to the
Hurricane Victim Operation Love
Fund.
Sunshine Person Eleanora Pelzel
announced our October celebrants—
Sadie Kubin, Mildred Trlica, Bertha
Podhrasky, and Georgia Morales.
“Happy Birthday” was sung to all but
Bertha, who was not present.
Eleanora reported that she had
flowers sent to Liddie Pavelka’s Serv-
ice and a card to the family.
Donations were made to the Circle in
Liddie’s memory by Lil Kosarek,
Vlasta Laznovsky, Dorothy Prachyl,
and Georgie Morales.
It was discussed and decided that
our November meeting will be our
regular lunch as we will be quilting.
We will quilt for the Junior Sokol.
This meeting, we quilted for
Dorothy Kudrna—a top made by her
sister, Evelyn Slovák. It was very
pretty and easy to quilt.
Pat Fowler announced we were
booked with quilts for all of 2006, but
if anyone had a speciál one to quilt,
they would rearrange the list.
Eleanora Pelzel thanked everyone
who stopped by to see her quilt at the
State Fair. She even received letters
in the mail telling how pretty it was.
She also entered fig jam that she
thought was very good and thought
would win. It did not, but her quilt
did—she thought that would not hap-
pen. Anyway, congratulations!
Sylvia and Vlasta attended the fair
and saw the quilt. It was very pretty,
they said. They were also bragging
that they got a ride with a policeman
in his motor car. That was great. You
remember Sylvia had just had knee
surgery last month. She is really
doing good.
We were happy to see Sidney
Bridewell. Her two lovely daughters,
Cathy and Linda, brought her. I think
they may join the Circle. We hope
so. We were glad to see Mildred
Trlica who has been absent for sever-
al months. We were glad she was
feeling better and able to come.
Elizabeth Máchovsky came but was
not feeling up to par. We hope she is
better by now. Libbie Wisniewski
made it. I cannot remember who
picked her up, but thank you to who-
ever it was. Libbie talked about her
new little kitten, Smokey. She is very
smart and understands everything
Libbie tells her. Remember, Libbie
lost one of her kittens to a coyote a
few months back. We are glad that
Libbie has a new one. Libbie report-
ed Georgia Tupý is doing well and
sends hello to everyone. Betty
Landsfeld also sends hello to all. We
look forward to seeing you in
November.
Libbie Vrla introduced her three
guests from Fort Worth—Lydia
Alholm, Mary Ann Kozel, and Rose
Steinman. We were so happy to háve
these lovely ladies. We hope they
come again.
Libbie Vrla told a nice story about
Lydia Alholnťs son, Tony Alholm.
While he was going to Notre Dáme
before Libbie Wisniewski moved to
Ennis, Tony stored his off-season
clothes in Libbie’s basement closet.
Lydia has been wanting to come and
visit with Libbie for a long time.
Lydia’s son has since passed away.
He left a beautiful family behind.
Lydia brought pictures. They had
lots to reminisce about.
Pat Fowler talked about a blow-
out she and her husband had on their
truck and how scary it was. She rec-
ommends that everyone get his/her
tires checked periodically. Rose
Steinman told us about her ordeal.
She and a friend went to Westfest.
Before leaving Fort Worth, she had
her car checked out and serviced. On
the way home in Grandbury, her
engine got hot, and the hoše broke.
She had to be towed all the way home
to Fort Worth. That would be scary
to me, too. They both gave good
advice: be sure and get everything
checked on your car before you leave
home.
Sidney Bridewell asked if anyone
could use old cards and glasses. Pat
Fowler said said she would také them
to the SPJST youth club. I think they
make things out of the cards and they
give the glasses to an organization for
needy people.
Dorothy Prachyl came latě, but
she was in time for the meeting. She
went with her husband for therapy on
his hand. Two of his fingers got cut
when working on a mower. He is
doing okay though.
Dorothy Prachyl told a cute little
joke in memory of Liddie Pavelka
about two little snakes. She felt that
Liddie was looking down on us smil-
ing. She always had cute things to
read and say.
Libbie Vrla had Cathy Vande
Eykel, Sidney BridewelTs daughter,
telí us about her daughter, Linda, the
Analyzing Myself
Submitfed by Raymond Posival
Lodge 15, Buckholts
A row of bottles on my shelf
Caused me to analýze myself.
One yellow pili I háve to pop
Goes to my heart, so it won’t stop.
A little white one that I také
Goes to my hands so they won’t
shake.
The blue ones that I use a lot
Telí me I’m happy when I’m not.
The purple pili goes to my brain
And tells me that I háve no pain.
The pink capsules telí me not
to wheeze
Or cough or choke or even sneeze.
The red ones, smallest of them all
Go to my blood so I won’t fall.
The orange ones, very big and bright
Prevent my leg cramps in the night.
Such an array of brilliant pills
Helping to cure all kinds of ills.
But what I’d really like to know—
Is what tells each one where to go?
