State Youth Director encourages
youth to apply for scholarships
is certainly a great honor and each
lodge is strongly encouraged to send
in a candidate. Each lodge is eligible
to send in one candidate per year.
Should you háve multiple nomina-
tions at your local lodge, your lodge
should vote to decide who the candi-
date will be.
Each year, the SPJST Fratemalist
of the Year winner is forwarded to the
National Fraternal Congress of
America (NFCA) to be considered for
the National Fratemalist of the Year.
Our SPJST Fratemalist of the Year
was Mrs. Bettie House of Fodge 202,
Jourdanton. She was recognized at
the 2005 NFCA convention that took
plače this past September in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The SPJST Fratemalist of the Year
can only be won once. However, a
person is eligible to be a candidate
again from their local lodge if they
háve been nominated and selected
previously but háve not won the
SPJST Fratemalist of the Year.
The SPJST Fratemalist of the Year
award is based on the candidate’s
accomplishments and involvement
during the past year (2005). The
award is not based on a candidate’s
involvement or contributions that
occurred many years ago. However,
those types of activities and accom-
plishments are the criteria ušed to
determine the Fifetime Achiever
Award that is given by your local
lodge in the spring. More details
about that award will be forthcoming.
Complete mles and guidelines for
the SPJST Fratemalist of the Year
award may be found on the official
entry form. Entry forms may be
obtained from your Fodge FAC or by
contacting us at the Home Office.
We’11 be glad to assist you! Forms
may also be downloaded from
www.spjst.com.
The 2005 National Fratemalist of
the Year award went to Mrs. Fois M.
Maurer of Marshfield, Wisconsin.
She is 47-year member of the Catholic
Knights. Visit www.nfcanet.org and
follow the NFCA news link for the
complete story.
Conclusion
The SPJST is in a period of growth
and expansion in Texas. Three new
lodges háve recently been organized,
and there are others very near that
point and others that are being consid-
ered. Be sure to welcome these new
lodges and their members into the
SPJST family with a trne fraternal
spirit.
At the same time, I encourage your
lodge to hold trne to the SPJST By-
Faw Preamble: To provide and pro-
mote fraternal and sociál fellowship
among its members; to endeavor to
keep alive the cherished traditions,
customs, heritage , culture, and lan-
guage of our forefathers; and general-
ly, through moral, spirituál, and eco-
nomic respect, to encourage benevo-
lence and humanity through the
Society with sound practical life
insurance for its members.
Fun Stuff
1. How many charter members did
the SPJST háve in 1897?
2. What is the heaviest mascot (in
pounds) in college sports?
3. Currently, how many SPJST By-
Faw articles are there?

Dear Youth Feaders,
Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you
all for a wonderful year in the SPJST
Youth Program. I hope that you all
háve a safe and happy holiday season.
Soaring to New Heights
The 2,500 goal and youth goal of
600 applications written has been
achieved! That means that all of the
exciting incentives will be awarded at
the SPJST Awards Banquet. If your
youth club has not achieved its goal,
there’s still time. Encourage your
youth club members to tum in those
referral cards! There are a lot of great
prizes to be given away for referrals
received during October, November,
and December. Please call or email
me if you háve any questions.
Vestnik Project Due Dates
Please remind the youth to put their
names on the Věstník projects and to
write their names legibly. Each month
I receive several projects without
names. If a project does not háve a
name on it, no one receives any points.
This is a simple way to make sure each
child receives the points that they
deserve. I would like to commend the
vast majority of you for getting the
Věstník projects in on time. Keep up
the good work! October Vesniik proj-
ects are due on November 10;
November Věstník projects are due on
December 10; and December Věstník
projects are due on January 10.
Quarterly Reports Due December 15
Please make every effort to submit
your quarterly reports on or before
December 15. This is the second
quarterly report for September,
October, and November. These
reports help to determine the funding
your youth club will receive at the
spring meeting and how much money
your district receives for its youth
activities. Youth clubs that do not
submit their quarterly reports on time
lose out on their incentives. This can
mean losing hundreds of dollars for
your youth club as well as youth
leader incentives. Please know that
you may also fax your quarterly
reports into the Fraternal Department
at (254) 774-7447. If you háve any
quarterly reports from previous quar-
ters please send them in as well. They
will count towards your year-end
totals.
DYCs to Meet November 5
The District Youth Counselors will
meet Saturday, November 5 at the YO
Retreat Center in Kerrville. At this
meeting, the 2005 youth year will be
reviewed and the 2006 youth year will
be planned. The meeting will begin at
9 a.m. If there is anything that you
would like to be discussed at this
meeting, please let your DYC know.
SPJST Scholarships
and Leadership Grants
All members who are high school
seniors or college undergraduates are
encouraged to apply for both the
SPJST General Scholarship and
Feadership Grant. For more informa-
tion or for applications, please call
Sandra Dubcak in the Fraternal
Department or visit www.spjst.com.
Completed scholarship applications
and related application materials must
be postmarked on or before February
1, 2006.
100 Pennies Scholarship Drive
Thanks to all of the young people
and youth clubs who háve contributed
to this wonderful project. All young
people who donate at least $2 will
receive 20 merit points. All young
people who donate at least $5 will
also receive a certificate.
SPJST Home Office Holiday Open
House—Monday, December 5
All members are cordially invited
to attend the Temple Christmas
Parade on Monday, December 5 in
downtown Temple at 6:30 p.m. The
SPJST will háve several entries in the
parade - including the fourth
statewide appearance for our 2005-
2006 SPJST State Royalty Court and
a speciál guest appearance by Miss
Texas Morgan Matlock. Following
the parade, everyone is invited to the
SPJST Holiday Open House. Come
by and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and
enjoy the SPJST as it comes alive
with several areas featuring men and
women who will be reliving the good
‘ol days with demonstrations and dia-
logue. The open house will feature
live music, refreshments, carriage
rides, face painting, children’s activi-
ties and a speciál musical perform-
ance by our State Queen Ráchel
Hunter. And throughout the holiday
season, the Home Office will feature
the Youth Christmas Tree with all of
the statewide winning youth oma-
ments. Czech Christmas customs,
including a Czech Christmas tree will
also be on display in the museum.
