115... and still
going strong
ln 33 days, SPJST leaders will
gather in Killeen, Texas, to set the
eourse for our great fraternal organi-
zation over the next four years. This
week’s Vestnik features eonven-
tion information and pre-eonven-
tion reports. I eneourage you to také
the time to read these reports, and be
sure to bring this Vestnik with you to
the eonvention in June. A sehedule
of aetivities appears on the baek page.
Looking Back...
The past four years háve been
exciting and event-filled in the
VestnikhCommunieation Department.
In addition to the weekly Vestnik,
duties inelude the SPJST website
and sociál media; the annual SPJST
ealendar; designing, developing,
maintaining, and overseeing the two
parade floats; eoordinating Orel,
the SPJST maseot; designing and
developing sales and marketing
broehures, various SPJST publiea-
tions ineluding SPJST Youth
Spectacular, SPJST Convention
Souvenir Book, and Member Services
Directory, and numerous promotional
materials for projeets, membership
eampaigns, and new produets; vari-
ous event eoordination and assis-
tanee; produeing and editing various
SPJST videos; and annual lodge and
youth elub mailouts.
The long hours and hard work
over the past four years háve all been
worth it as we háve aeeomplished
many things. I believe that we are
taking the Vestnik/Communieation
Department to new levels.
In addition, we eompleted the 700-
page, 1,400-reeipe SPJST Ta sty
Traditions eookbook to eommemorate
SPJST’s 115th anniversary and the
Vestnik’s lOOth anniversary. And,
something very speciál . . . thanks to
Texas Czeeh Genealogieal Society
(TCGS), all past Vestniks will be
available in an online searehable
database by the end of the year.
My thanks to everyone who has
helped me aehieve these goals over
the past four years. Sineere thanks to
Communieation Assistant Katherine
Morris for her dedieation and support.
Her experienee and knowledge is a
great asset to SPJST. The many hours
that we spend together working on
the Vestnik and other Communieation
Department projeets are always
pleasant.
Thanks to the Publieation
Committee members for their sup-
port. I háve thoroughly enjoyed
working with Chairman Jarolyn
Popp, Viee Chairman Bessie Petr,
Secretary Helen Kelner, and
Committee Members Floyd
Kostelka, Tammy Whatley, Sharon
Hohmann, and Lorenda Baldwin.
Thank you, ladies and gentleman,
for your care and eoneem.
To those who submit artieles and
photographs to the Vestnik eaeh week
. . . my utmost appreeiation to you—
for you tmly are the baekbone of our
weekly newspaper. Please keep those
items Corning! Thanks, too, to the
readers for their loyalty. It is the
readers and members who make it
all worthwhile. Thank you.
And, finally, thank you to my hus-
band, David Nauert, for running
hand-in-hand with me the past four
years. There has never been a duli
moment, and I am proud to say that
Daviďs love, support, eneourage-
ment, and prieeless assistanee háve
eertainly been the wind that earries
me.
Best wishes to all delegates and
members for a sueeessful and pro-
duetive 3 lst SPJST Convention.
May your hearts guide you in making
the best deeisions for our wonderful
organization that has endured for 115
years. Thank you, and I look forward
to seeing you in June in Killeen.
Fratemally yours,
Melanie Zavodny, FIC
