Have You Noticed...
By Michael Waits Sr, Pastor, First Baptist Crandall
... how the world is just ab- the part that makes us humans
solutely loaded with people who
don’t seem to think God’s judg-
ment is a significant threat to their
everyday routines? And it seems
to get worse every year. It’s hard
for me to get too wrapped up in
the things of this world when I
read biblical prophecy and real-
ize everything, I mean every-
thing we see, every building we
enter, every lake we fish on, will
be burned up. The Apostle Peter
wrote of this very fact. He wrote
in chapter three of his second let-
ter, “But the day of the Lord will
come like a thief, then the heav-
ens will vanish with a thunderous
crash, and the material elements
will be dissolved with fire, and
the earth and works that are upon
it will be burned up.” Did you get
that?
Peter walked with the Christ
and had a very close relationship
with Him. Peter knew Christ
and testified that Christ’s return
would be cataclysmic. If Jesus
can do all that He has done, why
would one doubt He will do all
that He says He’ll do? And here’s
look like so much folly. Many of
our brothers and sisters who are
not yet saved look at our efforts to
walk with Christ and scoff. Yet if
wisdom and quality is measured,
as it often is, by the durability and
quality of how permanent a situ-
ation lasts (think old girlfriend
or boyfriend; think about a past
job that you put your trust in and
you were exploited), then belief in
Christ is the best because He will
never make you ashamed or leave
you hanging out.
And here’s the thing; how
can we get excited about that
which is temporary. Everything
you see will be burned up. All
that you trust, all that you admire,
apart from what Christ provides
and encourages, will be gone.
Transformed by the same power
that created the universe; quick-
ened by the same power that re-
stored life to Jesus’ body in the
tomb! That same power will both
protect the saved but reject the de-
fiant and lost. In whom will you
be found? Trust in Christ.. .You’ll
be glad you did.
Give thanks to the
LORD, for he is good; his
love endures forever.
