KRESS - Myrtle Boggs, 92, died
Wednesday, Sept. 18,2002.
Services were at 2 p.m. Friday in
First Baptist Church of Kress with
the Rev Bill Fuller, pastor of First
Baptist Church of Panhandle, and the
Rev. Jay Simpson, pastor, officiat-
ing. Burial was in Kress Cemetery by
Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview.
Mrs. Boggs was bom Feb. 19,1910,
in Carey She married Roma Andrew
Boggs on July 19, 1930, in Clovis,
N.M.
Survivors include three son$, Andy
Boggs of Kress, Jack E. Boggs of
Matador and Billy R. Boggs of Plain-
view; four grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.

Sylvia Ann Davis
PLAINVIEW - Sylvia Ann Davis,
61. died Monday. Sept 16, 2002, in
El Paso
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in
First Christian Church. Burial was
in Plainview Memorial Park by Lem-
ons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davis was bom July 27,1941,
in Junction City. Kan., to Percy and
Vivian Ferguson, and graduated from
Plainview High School on May 28,
1959 She attended Texas Christian
University m Fort Worth. Oklahoma
PanhandleStateCollegein Goodwell,
Okla.. and Way land Baptist Univer-
sity m Plainview She graduated from
West Texas State with a bachelor of
arts degree on May 27. 1967. She
then went on to seminary
Mrs Davis began teaching at
Floydada ISD in 1970
She also taught in Alice ISD, Big
Spring ISD. Bovina ISD and Fabens
ISD. until she retired in 1994 She
was a member of the First Christian
Church in Plainview
She married David Davis on July
19. 1976
She was preceded m death by her
father and mother, and her father-in-
law. William Daniel Davis of Hugo,
Okla
Survivors include her husband, a
daughter. Vivian LeeAiui; a brother-
in-law, Kenny Davis and wife. Terri;
• three nieces; three nephews; and nu-
merous cousins.

Sherry Walker
AMARILLO-Sherry Walker, 64,
died Thursday. Sept. 19, 2002.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday in
Paramount Baptist Church with the
Rev F M Byford officiating. Burial
was in Memory Gardens Cemetery by
Rector Funeral Home.

She moved to Amarillo in 1981 from
Pampa. She graduated from Howard
Payne University with a bachelor’s in
secondary education
She taught school m Happy. Pam-
pa and Amarillo, and retired in 1993
from Crockett Middle School.
She was a member of Paramount
Baptist Church
She married Dwain Walker in 1961
at Tulia.
Survivors include her husband;
three sons. Chuck Walker of Round
Rock. Rodney Walker of Amarillo
and David Walker of Cibolo; two
brothers. Royce Denton of Goree and
Dennis Denton of Tulia; and eight
grandchildren.

AMARILLO - Genoveva Martinez,
77, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002.
Prayer services were at 7 p.m.
Thursday in Blackbum-Shaw Funer-
al Directors Memorial Chapel. Mass
was at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church with the
Rev. Rex Nicliol of the church offici-
ating. Burial was in Llano Cemeteiy.
She married Raul Martinezon April
18, 1942, in Canyon.
Mrs. Martinez was a member of
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church and a member of Las
Guadalupanas.
She was preceded in death by a son,
Ismael Martinez; two sisters. Sophia
Malacara and Magdalena Mora; and
a stepbrother, Alex Gallegos.
Survivors include herhusband; five
sons, EUie G. Martinez, Sillveno A.
“Chevy” Martinez, Raul Martinez
Jr., Ruben Martinez and Eddie Jo-
seph Martinez, all of Amarillo; five
daughters, Delia Gonzales of Tulia,
and Ofeha Reyes. Lucy Reyes, Rosie
Harp and Gracie Paredes, all of Am-
arillo; two sisters. LivradaTenonoof
Amarillo and Catalina Burrola of
Kansas City, Mo., a brother, Rafael
Quintero of Amarillo; two stepsis-
ters, Mancela De Los Reyes and
Avelia Alcala, both of Amanllo; three
stepbrothers. Jesse Gallegos, Ricky
Gallegos and Ismale “Smiley”
Gallegos, all of Amanllo; 24 grand-
children; 28 great-grandcliildren; and
five great-great-grandchildren.

McWilliams Gerdes
AMARILLO-Willie Mae McWill-
iams Gerdes. 92, died Sunday, Sept.
22, 2002
Graveside services were at 2 p.m.
Tuesday in Rose Hill Cemetery with
the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor of First
United Methodist Church, officiat-
ing. Arrangements were by Schooler
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gerdes was bom Sept. 10,
1910, in Mertens, the fourth of 11
children, to Charles Lee and Minnie
Lee Terrell McWilliams, one of the
founding residents of Briscoe Coun-
ty. The family moved to Silverton in
1929. She attended Haylake Countiy
School and Silverton schools.
She married Wayne “Moose”
Gerard Gerdes on Oct. 26,1945. Mr.
Gerdes was the son of Bruce E. and
Bethany Belle Smitliee Gerdes of
Tulia and Silverton. They made their
home in Tulia where he established
his plumbing business alter return-
ing from service in the Navy.
She was a member of First United
Methodist Church ofTulia, and cared
for the church nursery for 16 years.
She retired m 1975 and moved to
Amarillo in 1993.
Mrs. Gerdes was preceded in death
by her husband on June 7, 1959; a
daughter, Terry Jan; four brothers;
and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters,
Kay Turner and husband, Leland, of
Sugar Land and Donna Taylor and
husband. Jim, of Amarillo; two sis-
ters, Wilma Hunt of Clarendon and
Mary SueBingham ofAmanllo, three
brothers. C L McWilliams of
Silverton. Billy McWilliams and
Bobby McWilliams, both of Quitaque;
three grandsons; two granddaugh-
ters; and a great-granddaughter.

LAZBUDDIE - Paula J. Daniel
McBroom, 68, died Wednesday, Sept.
18, 2002.
Services were at 2 p.m. Friday in
the Lazbuddie Church of Christ with
Leon Talley and David Bennett offi-
ciating. Burial was in Lazbuddie
Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral
Home.
Mrs. McBroom was bom April 28,
1934, in Clovis, N.M. She had lived
in the Lazbuddie area all her life. She
was a homemaker.
She married Everett McBroom on
Sept. 18, 1953, in Lazbuddie.
Survivors include her husband; two
daughters, Susan Renner of Friona
and Donna McBroom of Oklahoma
City; a sister, Joy WilterdingofTulia;
a brother, Jim Roy Daniel of
Lazbuddie, two grandchildren, Bran-
don Renner of Canyon and Misty
Hightower of Ruidoso, N.M.; and
three great-grandcliildren.

Everett Senter
LUBBOCK-EverettSenter, 91, died
Friday, Sept 20, 2002.
Services were Monday at Rest-
liaven Abbey Chapel with the Rev.
Richard Craven officiating. Burial
was in Resthaven Memorial Park
under the direction of Resthaven Fu-
neral Home.
Mr. Senter wasbom Sept 18,1911,
in Arapaho, Okla. Heattended schools
and grew up in Grandfield, Okla. He
was a member of the CCC Corps
work program, then served in the
U.S. Army in the 27th Infantry dur-
ing WWII from 1944-1946, and was
stationed in Hawaii
In his early years he was a famier m
Weatherford, Grandfield, Okla., and
Memphis. Later he worked in a ma-
chine shop in Oklahoma City
He married Lillian Kinzer in Sep-
tember. 1947. in Oklahoma
He moved to Tulia m 1949 and
farmed here until 1955. when he
moved to Petersburg and fanned there
until retinng m 1983 He was a mem-
ber of the Lakeview Methodist
Church, and had been a resident of
Lubbock since 1984
Mr Senter was preceded in death
by liis parents. and by lus wife on
Dec. 5. 1982
Survivors include two sons, Ken
Senter and Gerald Grant, both of
Lubbock; a daughter, Ann Urban of
Montgomery, Ala.; a sister Hazel
Kinzer of Grandfield, Okla.; six
grandchildren and three great-grand-
children.

TULIA-Eduvijes Rosales, 90, died
Saturday, Sept. 21,2002, at8:30 a.m.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m.
Monday in Rose Hill Cemetery Ar-
rangements were by Wallace Funeral
Home.
Mr Rosales was born Aug. 25,
1912, in Piedras Coaulula, Mexico.
He married Blasa Lopez in 1932.
She preceded him in death April 8,
2002.
He moved to Tulia in 1958. He was
also a member of the Church of God
of the First Born
Survivors include a daughter,
Mercedes Zapata of Amarillo; two
sons, Ruben Rosales and Andres
Rosales, both ofTulia, 17 grandchil-
dren, 45 great-grandchildren; and
several great-great-grandchildren

James Sturgess
TULIA-James Sturgess, 74, died
Tuesday, Sept. 24,2002, at 8:30 a.m.
Services will be Thursday, Sept.
26,2002, at 2 p.m. at Central Church
of Christ with Trey Morgan, minis-
ter, officiating. Burial will be in Rose
Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Sturgess was bom March 22,
1928, in Tipton, Okla. He married
JohnnieMaePotteronDec. 14,1946,
in Vernon.
Mr. Sturgess grew up in Tipton,
Okla., and graduated from schools
there. He moved to Springlake-Earth,
before moving to Tulia in 1953. He
was a-lifelong farmer. He was also a
member of Central Church of Christ
ofTulia.
He was preceded in death by his
wife in 1963; one son, Charles
Sturgess; and by seven brothers and
sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Robert
Sturgess of Tulia, and Timmy
Sturgess of Lubbock; one daughter-
in-law, Valerie Sturgess ofTulia; one
sister, Ruby Gover of Tyler; and seven
grandchildren.

Marvell Knight Austin
AMARILLO - MarvellKnight Aus-
tin died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, in
Amarillo.
Services will be Thursday, Sept.
26, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Paramount
Terrace Christian Church.
Mrs. Austin was bom and raised in
Tulia and moved to Amarillo in 1949.
She owned and operated Polly's Res-
taurant for 40 years. She was the
daughter of the late Elmer and Ola
Knight.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Bob Austin; one sister, three
brothers; and her parents.
Survivors include one son, Mike
Hall of Atlanta, Ga., four daughters,
Rita Houchin and Hanet Goff of
Amarillo, Robin Hensler of Plano,
and Teresa Wagnor of Springfield
Mo.; one sister, Elsie Rousseau of
Tulia; one brother, George Knight of
Clarendon, eleven grandchildren and
several great-grandchildren.

Rudy Medina Sr.
CORSICANA-Rudy Medina Sr.,
49, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002.
Services were Friday, Sept. 20,
2002, at 10 a.m. in Griffin-Roughton
Chapel. Burial was in Eureka Cem-
etery.
Mr. Medina wasbom Oct. 29,1952,
in Marvor, Ark., to Rufus Medina
and Martina Arredondo Medina. He
married Gloria Miranda in 1969 in
Dumas.
He retired from Diamond-Sham-
rockPetroleum in 1996, and was self-
employed as the owner of The
Jalapeno Grill Restaurant in
Corsicana.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria
Medina ofCorsicana; four sons, Rudy
Medina Jr., Richard Medina, Stacey
Medina, and Jamie Medina, all of
Corsicana; one daughter, January
Angel of Dallas; four grandchildren;
his mother, Martina Medina of Ama-
rillo; three brothers, Daniel and
Sylvester Medina, both of Amarillo,
and Joe Medina of Dumas; and sis-
ters, Olivia Medina of El Paso, Mar-
garet Vigil and Martha Aiderett, both
of Albuquerque, Juanita Rocha, San
Juanita Hernandez, Nora Chavez, all
of Amarillo, Toni Holton of Tulia,
and Pauline Garcia of Ulyssess, Kan

lommy Nuzum
VANCOUVER, Wash.-Tommy
Nuzum, 60, died Thursday, Sept. 19,
2002, in Vancouver, Wash.
Services were Sunday, Sept. 22,
2002, at 11 a.m. in Vancouver Chapel.
Private burial with full military hon-
ors was.at the Post Cemeteiy in
Vancouver.
Mr Nuzum was bom March 13,
1942, in Tulia.
He grew up in Tulia on a farm 17
miles northwest near Vigo Park.
He joined the U S. Army in 1960
and served 20 years, including two
combat tours in Vietnam, as a medi-
cal corpsman.
His last assignment in the Army
was the ArmedForcesInduction Cen-
ter in Portland, Ore.
After retiring from the Army, he
worked as a civilian medical techni-
cian at the military enlistment pro-
cessingcenter inPortlandfor 15 years,
retiring on disability in 1998.
He was preceded in death by one
son, Jimmy; and a sister Vivian.
Survivors include his wife, Hiroko;
a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy
Jr. and Sandra Nuzman, of Van-
couver; his mother and stepfather,
Kathryn and Bill Pryor of Denver
Colo., a sister, Pat Weinstroer of
Dallas; and three grandchildren.
