Eagle Scouts Earn Rank With Hard Work
From page one
completed. The Scout must plan, give
leadership to and see through to com-
pletion. Some Scouts put in more than
100 hours or work into their carefully
thought-out projects. Scoutmasters,
advisors and many volunteers guide
the Scout through the project.
The project must be thoroughly
planned out and submitted to the
Scoutmaster. It must include a plan,
sketches, estimates of how many
people will be needed and the amount
of time it will take. Following the
Scoutmaster’s approval, the plan is
submitted to the District Eagle Project
Coordinator for his approval. The
service project is then ready to be car-
ried out.
Several Scouts from this area went
through the Boy Scout program to
receive the honor of becoming an
Eagle Scout. Two members of Troop
211, David Atkinson and John Parker,
earned eagle rank. Atkinson got his
whole troop involved as he created a
nature trail through Bear Creek Park.
Parker organized a group of children to
fix up the playground at a Baptist
Mission on the northside. They spent
hours cleaning the park and painting
gym equipment and picnic tables.
Troop 125 had four Scouts to earn
this honor, James Boynton, Robert
Ireland, Trey Lozes and Greg Weiss.
Boynton created a recycling center for
aluminum, paper and glass. Ireland
worked at Russ Pitman Park painting
picnic tables and cleaning the area.
Lozes worked at the park creating a
nature center and walkway. Weiss
helped the Christian Community Serv-
ice Centers relocating their thrift shop
by moving new items from the ware-
house to the shop.
Brad Mclnnis, James Suttles and
Terry Truzillo of Explorer Post 80 and
Eric Woodall from Troop 80 also
earned Eagle rank. Truzillo painted
fire hydrants in Sharptstown to make
them more visible. Suttles remodeled a
church by painting buildings and
