Houston hosts Senior Olympics
You d°n thave to be young to be physically fit, and that's just what you can prove at the first Senior
Olympics to be held in Houston, April 1-5,1989. This four-day event exclusively for athletes aged 55
or older will prove that athletic achievement belongs as much to the ever increasing mature population
as it does to youth.
Underwritten by the Houston Chronicle, Memorial Care Systems, Houston Parks and Recreation
Department, and organized by the Jewish Community Center of Houston, the Olympic Games are set
up to accommodate a broad range of interests, skills and levels of conditioning. Along with the tennis,
racquctball, track and field events, less vigorous activities like horseshoes, darts, softball and football
throws, and bowling are also included in the competition.
The events are divided into men’s and women’s classes and separated by age groups in five-year
increments. Medals and ribbons will be awarded. A $4 entry fee allows participation in as many events
as desired.
Senior Olympics encourages year-round fitness. A series of free exercise classes and physical
conditioning clinics are scheduled at convenient times and locations. You don’t have to be a participant
in Senior Olympics to take advantage of these classes. Pick a location that's convenient for you.

Take precautions with SS checks
When a Social Security check fails to arrive on the third of the month, chances are it’s due to
something the beneficiary has failed to do. The risk of a missing or delayed check may be substan-
tially reduced by taking a few easy precautions.
Failure to report a change of address is the most common reason for not receiving a check. A
change of address should be reported both to the Social Security office and the post office. The post
office forwards mail for only one year, after which any mail that does not contain a new address
is returned to the sender. Changes of address may be reported to the Social Security office by phone
