MEMORIES FROM
MEYERLAND
By Barbara Adair
665-7096
Never do I remember
procrastinating as much as
today. In the past I have
read Leon Hale and other
columnists dramatize
deadline and today I fully
understand.
The bed linens have
been washed, dried and
replaced; the fog has fully
burned off outside; the desk
top is organized for a
change; another chapter of
Erma Bombeck’s new
book has been digested;
what else is there but the
ironing so on with an at-
tempt to satisfy a deadline.
Congratulations to our
Meycrland’s William A.
Kistler, president of
Hughes Tool Company! He
is one of the four Houston
engineering executives and
alumni named to the first
University of Houston
Engineering Hall of Dis-
tinction. As 1987 rapidly
draws to a close we will bid
farewell to Grace Bairl af-
ter 31 years of service at St.
Thomas Episcopal Church.
She has fairly recently
moved from her home on
Jackwood to a town home
of Bissonnet. At the No-
vember homecoming she
was honored by many lov-
ing friends and as she says
“it was a very emotional
day, but so have the 31
years been”
Retirement does not
mean we are saying good-
bye, just that she doesn’t
have to be there working
regularly, so we’ll see your,
Gracic.
Speaking of retirement,
Joe Gibbs from Darnell
Street called me the other
day and we had a nice chat.
He has been retired
from Texas Iron Works for
a couple of years. Says he
has been in Meycrland
since 1970. Good to hear
from this Ag class of ‘42.
Tree trimming time is here
in full swing. Meycrland
Club members met last
Sunday to help trim their
tree and sing Christmas
carols and share cider and
cookies.
Each year I sort of wish
the cheer could be spread
around all twelve months,
but then it wouldn’t be
Christmas and we do have
holidays in ten other
months so guess will just
try to keep my head above
water and work off all the
goodies later. Also last
Sunday was a day to wel-
come Father Jon Sonnen
and wife, Marilyn. They
and their sons, Stephen and
Eric will be living in the
Grapery and he will be the
assistant to the Rector at St.
Thomas Episcopal Church
and School. The Sonnens
moved to Meycrland from
Hempstead where he as
been Rector for the past
nine and a half years.
With Christmas a little
over two weeks away you
may want to practice say-
ing “Merry Christmas” in
Italian (Buon Natale) or
French (Joyeux Noel) or
German (Frohlichc
Wcihnachtcn).
Keep you eyes on 4802
North Braeswood—watch
the traffic too—if you just
happen to be driving that
way. I have a feeling some-
thing very interesting struc-
turally is about to happen.
Hope to have facts soon !
To Richard Gottlieb,
no, the New York Times
has not called me yet, but
my telephone number is
listed at the top of this col-
umn for them or anyone
who may want to share
memories with me.
