Miss Jonell Birtsch, bride-elect
of Harold \V. Schmitt of Los
i Alamos, New Mex., was honored
at a miscellaneous showef on April
110 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
annex.
Miss Britsch and Mr. Schmitt
will be married on May 4 at the
Lutheran Church.
** Hostesses for the shower were
Mesdames Robert Saathoff, Arnold
Balzen. Ernest Balzen, John Eich-
holtz, Joe Balzen. Chester Saath-
off, Charles Schlentz, Jim Lynch,
Alma Goff Ernest Britsch Al-
vin Britsch, Walter Fuos, Elgin
Stiegler, Hugo Balzen and Melvin
Balzen, and Miss Marjorie Britsch.
A rrangements of sweetpeas
were used as decorations. The hos-
tesses wore corsages of van-color-
ed sweetpeas, and the honoree
wore a corsage of ranunculi in
variegated shades of red and yel-
low. The mothers of the bride and
groom-to-be had pink carnation
corsages.
Refreshments of chicken salad
on lettuce, saitines, potato chips,
tea, coffee, and heart-shaped cakes
were served. Plate favors were
split marshmallows propped open
with candy to resemble wedding
rings in boxes.
Miss Britsch was also honored
with a miscellaneous shower given
inuSeguin by Mrs. Monroe Schmitt;
in Austin by Mrs. Don W. Morgan,
and Mrs. Sam E. Bruton; and
Miss Mary Lu Deaton in Austin
with a canasta party.

The annual junior-senior ban-
quet and prom at the LaCoste High
school was held last Wednesday
night, April 23, in the high school
auditorium with some t‘>5 persons
present to enjoy the evening.

members and other guests. The
prayer was given by Donnie Tschir-
hait and David Burell gave the
invitation to eat. The menu con-
sists! of tomato juice, mashed
potatoes, baked ham, green beans,
butter and rolls, salad, iced ten
and strawberry shortcake.
The memories were read by Bet-
tie Burkholder and Floyd Lott,
junior student, introduced the
honored guests, Supt. A. I). Blue,
Mr, Stewart, class sponsor, Mrs.
Stewart, who helped the juniors
plan the banquet-prom, and Earl
Achilles, senior class president,
Marlene Biediger played a piano
solo entitled “Memories 7. The
class will was read by Werner
Stinson and then Betty Bippert
gave the invitation to dance. A
grand march preceded dancing to
the music of Bobby Klein and his
orchestra.

on the last Council meeting. It
was voted to take a,sewing course
in the club and also to make lamp
shades.
Miss Combs demonstrated kitch-
en cabinets and how to make use

Games were enjoyed, and Miss
Combs won a hand-made table

Mrs. Lacy Feted
With Party At
McDaniel Home
Mrs, (J. E. Lacy was the sur-
prised honoree at a party Monday
afternoon in the home of Rev. and
Mrs. L. A. McDaniel, when mem-
bers of the W\ S. C. S. compli-
mented her with a birthday party.
White lilies were used in the
living room and pink roses were
placed on the buffet in the din-

rengements division of the Hondo Garden Club’s Show last Sat-
urday were, front row, left to right, Mrs. Leo Laake, Mrs. James
Francis Drake, and Mrs. Walter Rothe. Mrs. Henry Merriman,
winner of the horticulture division, was unable to be present
when the photo was taken.

200 Arrangements Entered In
Garden Club Show Saturday
More than 200 arrangements
were entered in the exhibit of the
Hondo Garden Club held Friday
in the educational building of
the First Baptist .Church in their
fourth annual flower show. Tak-
ing honors in the arrangement
division were Mrs. Walter Rothe
and Mrs. Leo Laake, members.of
the club, and Mrs. James Francis
Drake, each of whom won two
blue ribbons.
Mrs. Henry Merriman was
sweepstakes winner in the horti-
cultural class of the show, by eX-
bibitirig four blue ribbon entries.
There were over 100 entries in
this division..
Theme of the show' was
“Through the Garden Gate”,
which was carried out in staging
the event. White trellises en-
twined with red climbing roses
were used at the entrance to the
hall with violets planted at the
base of the trellises. Inside the
gate, a wishing Well constructed

used "in forming archways over
the doors, and lawn furniture and
potted plants were placed about
the setting.

revealed the names of the out-
of-town judges who awarded the
ribbons. They were Mrs. C. C.
Witchell, Mrs. W. C. Bvrd, and
Mrs. Kush "all of San Antonio.

container. The cake honoring Mrs.
Lacy was designed in the shape
of an open Bible with the 23rd
Psalm written in green script on
the white icing. A pink satin rib-
bon laying across the open book
was the marker and a pink rose
confection was placed at one cor-
ner. The cake was served by Mrs.
Karl Lacy. Miss Helen Lacy pre-
sided at the punch bowl.
The honoree was presented a
golden book of verse by Mrs. Al-
fred Brucks on behalf of the W. S.
C. S. members. Approximately
fifty guests were present for the
party.

SURPRISED ON BIRTHDAY
LACOSTE—Mrs. Frances Wurz-
bach was surprised in San Anto-
nio on April 16 with a party on
her birthday. The party was given
at the home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. N. E.
Mansfield.
Present were Mr. and Mrs. Mil-
ton Wurzbach and daughters of
San Antonio. Mr. and Mrs. A. N.
Mangold of Cliff, and Mrs. Clay-
tori Mangold and two children of
San Antonio.

ing club woman in Medina County
because of her record of achieve-
ment.

in addition to Mrs, Etter, were

Mrs. Frank Peterson cut the
cake, and Mrs. Oscar Etter served
punch.. About 30 guests were reg-

home of Mrs. George Schmidt
on April 22. The cluo with the
Murphy ( luh, will have a tamale
and cake sale at Eckhart’s Sat-
urday evening, May 10. Entertain-
ing their visiting club on June 17
was discussed.
Mrs. \\ alter Etter gave the
council report. She was also the
winner of the “states and their
nicknames” contest.
Mrs. Schmidt served tamales,
crackers, olives, home-made cook
cheese, and coffee. Next meeting
will be in the home of Mrs. Etter
on May 13.

Delegates to the district meet-
ing in Pleasanton made a report,
and Miss Combs told of the dress
levue which was held in Castro-
ville on April 1 7. Mrs. L. M. Cum-
mings and Mrs. Flack, of the Na-
talia cluh, gave a demonstration
on making lamp shades.

tertained the OMK4T Club in
the new home of Mrs. Martin last
Friday afternoon.
Mrs. Odan, presiding, had Mrs.
I eterson conduct a game, and roll
call was answered by giving short-
cuts in serving.
Mrs. Odam. Mrs. Scheible and
Mrs. Rotramel demonstrated sew-
ing helps. Mrs. Penn reported on
the council meeting and style show
Ten members will go to Uval-
de to a sewing school in May. A
cake and pie sale will be held on
May 10.
During the social hour, Mrs.
Martin was given a number of gifts
for her new home. The next meet-
ing will be in the home of Mrs.
Gattis. Two geusts, Mrs. Babcock
and Mrs. Crockett, and 17 mem-
bers enjoyed refreshments.
