(entertainment at St. Philip’s first
dance of the school year on Sep-
tember 26, in the student union

The annual dance is sponsored
to welcome the incoming fresh-
man class.
Opening the dance with their
familiar music, Mickey and his
band, who have played at pre-
vious dances at St. Philip’s Col-
lege, played their “rock - soul”
music, which seems to be much
in vogue on the campus. The
band is composed of six mem-
bers, all natives of San Antonio.
Their leader, Mickey, plays both
organ and saxophone in the band.
member of the Les Ambassadrice

The new officers were sworn
in by Mrs. Taylor. She declared
and proclaimed the officers and
representatives of the Sophomore
Class for the academic year of
1968-69. She commented to the
officers about their duties and
obligations and wished them all
a successful and fruitful year in
office.
The closing remarks were made
by the President, Miss Michaux.
She expressed her sincere grati-
tude and appreciation to the
class for electing her to office.
Mr. Young, of KAPE radio sta-
tion, acted as guest master of
ceremonies for the dance. Mr.
Young is commonly known as
“San Antonio’s favorite soul disc
jockey.” Great excitement was
generated by the guest M.C. while
the band was taking a break.
Ticket stubs were drawn and
record albums were given as
prizes by Mr. Young to the for-
tunate people whose stubs were
chosen. One of the lucky win-
ners, Mathilda Lewis, had a bit
of difficulty getting up to accept
her album. Sonny James was
obviously pleased, as evinced
by his broad smile, at his win-
ning. This is understandable, as
this is reportedly the first time
Sonny was ever really surprised!

Wednesday, September 18, 1968
marked the official installation
of the new student council of-
ficers for the school year 68-69.

a.m. in the college auditorium.

P. Moody, President of the Col-

Following the invocation, Dr.
Nail administered the oath of

This years’ officers are as fol-

Vice - President, Ronald Benson,
and Secretary - Treasurer, Stella

The oath of office was repeat-
ed by the three students:
I (name of student council
member), solemnly promise to
uphold and enforce all the pro-
visions of the constitution ap-
proved by St. Philip’s Student
Body. I also sincerely promise
to discharge fully the duties of
my office and to attend every
meeting of the Student Council
unless illness, death, or some
other very serious emergency
prevents my attendance at
school, so help me God.
Following the installation of
officers, Mrs. Vittoria Dixon in-
troduced Mr. Ed. Holmes, who
spoke on the importance of stay-

asked each student not to be
swayed by radical groups, but to

baby learn”, not “burn baby
burn”, and his final admonition
was “This is the only way you
can get ahead.”
After this address, our Dean,
Dr. C. W. Norris, reiterated the
highlights of Mr. Holmes speech
