Weatherford College was defeated
in its first football game of the sen. j
son, Friday afternoon when Burle- j
son College at Greenville rolled up a
58 to 0 score against the local squad, j
insufficient practice of the Weath- J
erford men accounted for such an
overwhelming defeat. Several of |
them had very little experience on
the gridiron and were consequently
not to be expected to put up a stone,
wall defense.
The absence of Barclay Weaver,
who was laid out of the game some
days ago with a broken arm, was
also felt by the local College eleven.
The Weatherford team threatened to
score a few times, but were unable
to deliver at the crucial moment.
With a little more practice, however,
to get the new gridsters broken in.
the Weatherford College team ought
to be able to develop a defensive
that will check such onslaughts as
were encountered at Greenville. Fri-
day.

LIBRARY GETS NEW BOOKS;
SHELVE NOT SUFFICIENT
Th" receipt of several new bookH
for the library in the Chamber of Com-
merce rooms is announced by Miss
Hester Maddox, librarian. “The Coun-
try Beyond," by James Oliver Cur-
wood, and “Certain People of Import-
ance,” by Kathleen Norris, have rec-
ently been presented to the library by
the Business and Professional Wom-
en's Club. Mrs. J. T. Gotten has also
given ,!The Man in Gray," by Thomas
Dixon.
Other books, such as juvenile sto-
ries and reference works have recently
been added to the rapidly growing li-
brary. There are not suffeient shelves
now to accommodate all the volumes
belonging to the collection.
Closely following a little flurry at
four o’clock Saturday morning, when
a few drops of rain fell, the wind
switched from the North and con.
tinued to grow a little colder until
noon. While it is not exactly hog
killing weather, yet it is a decided
change from the warn summer days
and new life and pep has been in.
stilled into the blood of the average
citizen According to old timers
the dry northers predict a severe
winter, of long duration. While
is hardly practical for users of gas
to lay in a supply for winter, the
general advice being handed out Sat-
urday morning was that wood and
coal users should take time by the
forelock, and stock the back yard,
the cellar or the end of the garage
with tuei necessary to warm the
house for the next five months.
