CHAPTER MEETS
Mrs. Johnny McMullan was
hostess Monday evening to
the members of Xi Zeta Chi
Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
The program was presented
by Mrs. Jimmy Martin and
Mrs. Buck Schaible. Election
of officers is slated for the
next meeting. Others present
Monday evening were Mrs.
Kumler Mund, Mrs. Herbert j
Wood and Mrs. John Glide- j
well.
now we're
getting
some place!
We’re making solid gains in
the fight against cancer, in
the research laboratory, in
the hospital and in the home.
Ten years ago medical
knowledge was able to save
only 1 in 4 lives—today it’s
saving 1 in 3.
Progress is being made in
the treatment of leukemia
patients whose lives are now
often lengthened by many
months and sometimes years.
New surgical techniques,
diagnostic methods, and an
informed public are impor-
tant reasons for these gains.
More and more people have
learned that many cancers
are curable if detected in
time. And,sensibly,more and
more people have formed the
life-saving habit of an
annual health checkup.
They know it’s living in-
surance against cancer! eb

CHALLENGING CAREERS
FOR YOUNG WOMEN
Cytotechnologists — specialists in the study of human body
| cells - are in growing demand today, as more and more
doctors make the “Pap smear” a routine part of their examina-
tion of women patients. This detection aid is a major factor
in conquering uterine cancer, the second greatest cancer killer
among women.
The cytotechnologist is the good right hand of the pathologist.
To her trained eye, the microscope reveals the very secrets of
life. Her judgment and alertness can mean the difference
between life and death to women.
Security, pleasant colleagues and the satisfaction of being part
of an all-out attack on the most dreaded of diseases are some
of the satisfactions in this rewarding new profession.
Chemistry or biology students who have completed two
years of college (or the equivalent) can qualify for this
new career field.
