Who do you want....SITTON on the Bench?
Qualities of a Judge
In making my decision to seek election tor Judge of the 258th Judicial District,
1 thought about what I believed were the qualities required of a Judge and I
whether I possessed those qualities and whether I was willing to hold myself to |
those standards. Here are my thoughts and standards:
The judge is the pillar of our entire justice system, and the public has a
right to demand "virtually irreproachable conduct from anyone performing
a judicial function." Judges must strive for the highest standards of integrity
in both their professional and personal lives.
In their personal lives, judges must avoid words, actions or situations that
might make them appear to be biased or disrespectful of the laws they are
sworn to uphold. They must treat lawyers, clients and witnesses with respect
and must refrain from comments that suggest they have made up their minds
in advance. In their professional lives, they should be knowledgeable about
the law. willing to undertake in-depth legal research, and able to write
decisions that are clear and cogent. Their judgment should be sound and
they should be able to make informed decisions that will stand up to close
scrutiny. They should be good listeners but should be able, when required, to ask questions that get to the heart
of the issue before the court. They should be courteous in the courtroom but firm when it is necessary to rein
in a rambling lawyer, a disrespectful litigant or an unruly spectator.
In making your decision regarding the best candidate for this position, I believe it is very important that you, as
a voter, know what each candidate believes are the qualities required of a Judge and what principles guide that
individual. 1 have the business, legal, and personal background which has trained and prepared me to be
the Judge of the 258th Judicial District Court. I promise to uphold the qualities and principles that I have
outlined. I ask for your vote and support in the Republican Run-off on May 27,2014. - Shelly Bush Sitton |
