proved to be too much to
handle for the Vidor Pirates as the
Pirates season ended with a 51-27
loss Friday night at Clyde Abshire
Stadium.
The Pirates (9-2) would amass
423 yards rushing but it would
be a couple of key turnovers and
a couple of big plays that would
doom the Pirates. Even thought
they were short on the scoreboard
they never ran out of heart. The
Pirates posted 27 points on a de-
fense that allowed just 11.5 points
a game this season.
“We had a great group of senior
this year and it makes me sad to
see them go,” said Vidor coach
Jeff Mathews said. “For a senior
class you always want to leave the
program better than you found it.
We were 8-2 last year and 9-1 this
year and next year we are striving
to be better."
Montana Quitante lead the
offensive unit picking 172 yards
on 22 carries and finding the end
zone three times on the ground
on once through the air to Colby
Sciarrilla. Justin Moore and Mi-
78 yards respectively.
The Bulldogs (11-0) were lead
by duel threat Aaron Sharp who
collected 345 yard through the
air and 78 rat the ground. Sharp
accounted for seven total touch-
downs with six coming through
the air. Gregory Hogan was his fa-
vorite target pulling in six catches
for 169 yards and four touchdown
strikes. Torrey Johnson also had
a big night with six grabs for 84
yards ami one touchdown.
The Summer Creek Bulldogs
took the lead right out of the gate
by forcing a fumble on Vidor’s
first possession. After the turnover
the Bulldogs struck first scoring
on the second play from scrim-
mage. Aaron sharp would fake
a draw play then run it the other
way 29 yards for the score. Jorge
Trujillo added the extra point.
The result of the Pirates second
possession would not be any
different as the Bulldogs fell on
another fumble.
The Bulldog offense would
waste little time scoring on the
sixth play of the drive with a 10
skill level by any means,”
Barrow said. “It was all about
matchups and Colton is a tough
match for a defensive back. We
wanted to check to him.
“Maybe it helps that Colton
is not such a big guy on video
(in previous game highlights).”
Barrow exhibited outstand-
ing patience with his play
calls. Nederland threw it 22
times and ran it 36 times. They
never lost their cool, unlike
their coach, and they never
got discouraged. Nederland’s
offensive coordinator received
a great compliment from his
tailback for the offense's game
plan.
“We re a balanced team,”
Hopkins said. “We can run it
when we need to and throw it
when we need to. It was just
a physical game. That’s why 1
had (so many carries).”
Dayton permitted Hopkins
virtually five yards a pop.
That’s a tribute to new blocker
Pryor and a solid line led by
center Cole Brown. Nederland
showed its balance, patience
and ball-control ability, going
87 yards in 12 plays for its
second touchdown. Raines
pumped once and Kimler
dashed behind his defender on
a 34-yard scoring reception
with 1:35 left in the half.
Hopkins carried seven
straight times for 52 yards dur-
ing a superb third-quarter pos-
session which ended scoreless
after Tanner Noel’s 42-yard
field goal sailed wide left.
Raines made two well-timed
cuts during a 57-yard scor-
ing journey with 9:18 to play.
Fittingly as the Nederland
QB headed to the end zone,
his final downfield blocking
shield came from Kimler, who
truly made sensational catches
earlier.
“Carson was on point (tar-
get) and his offensive line gave
him great protection,” said
Kimler. “Dayton didn’t quit.
They kept fighting."
Dayton tried plenty of
sideways movement on this
day and the end duo of Couron
and Washington swallowed up
plenty. The Broncos converfSd
three times on fourth down, ,,
throwing over the middle
during a 75-yard, 14-play
series. Kimler said his Big Ned
defense did not focus as much
late in the game on Dayton’s
underneath series.
Neumann, however, thought
his team got tired late in the
game. Neumann’s players will
not get tired of their coach’s
post-game apologies, though...
as long as the Bulldogs win.

“We still felt good about our
gameplan after the fumbles,” Said
Matthews. “Both came from guys
that are normally sure-handed but
we never stopped fighting. That’s
what makes a coach proud”.
After both teams traded fruitless
possessions the Pirates would
take over at the Bulldogs 49 yard
line thanks to a short punt. The
offense finally got tolling as they
moved down the field to score on
only five plays. Facing a third and
seven situation Quirante showed
poise under pressure as he found
Sciarrilla for a 12 yard touchdown
strike. Tamayo’s kick made the
scoreboard read 14-7 with 53 sec-
onds left in the first quarter.
They Pirates would not let up as
Zach Massey fell onto a surprise
onside kick. Starting on their own
48 yard line they would use 10
plays to chip away at the field po-

pay-dirt. Tamayo’s kick would
pull the Pirates back to even with
8:08 remaining in the half.
On the ensuing drive Sumer
creek would stall in the red zone
and be forced to settle for a field
goal. Trujillo’s hit a bank shot as
the kick went off the upright and
bounced on the crossbar twice
before it finally resulted in three
points.
The Pirates offense would push
into enemy territory looking for
their first lead of the night. But
the Bulldog defense would fall on
their third fumble of the night to
stifle the momentum.
The Bulldogs would captilize
on the mistake using a 44-yard
strike from Sharp to Hogan to land
the offense 15 yards from the end
zone. The following play Sharp
would find Hogan again this time
in the end zone. Trujillo’s kick put
them up by 10 with one minute
until halftime.
The Bulldogs would come out
swinging after halftime as they
found the end zone yet again.
Sharp managed to find Hogan yet
again for a 27 yard score. The PAT
