rrihe students at Big
Sandy Elementary
are setting a great
example for children all
over!
The fourth and fifth
grades have set a goal
to raise enough money
for updated playground
equipment for the
school’s playground.
They are calling this task
Project Play. After doing
some research and pric-
ing for equipment they
realized that it is quite
expensive.
They set their goal at
$50,000 in order to provide
durable, updated equipment
for all grade levels within
the elementary. They hope
to have this accomplished
by March 1,2013.
Big Sandy has one play-
ground for all of the children
in the elementary to use.
It is a fast growing dis-
trict, and every year the
playground has to accom-
modate an increased num-
ber of students. Due to the
increase in students the
playground has more and
more use. This is taking its
toll on the equipment. The
equipment has started to
show its age over the last
several years, and needs to
be updated.
According to Sean
Williams, a 4th grader, “The
playground is really old, and
we need more room for the
kids to play on.” It desper-
ately needs to be replaced.
Lauren Manton, also a 4th
grader, feels, “We need
more playground equipment
for the kids with disabilities
and special needs.” Nicole
Shaw, 4th grader, was asked
why Project Play is impor-
tant to her. She responded.
“I have two younger sisters,
and I would like them to
have a nice playground to
play on.”
These determined students
have come together to solve
this problem within their dis-
trict. They have decided that
this is the year to make a dif-
ference in their community. As
