OR. HARRIS PREACHED A POWER-
FUL SERMON LAfiT NIOHT
TO LARGE GATHERING.
The Green Avenue Baptist church
was comfortably Ailed last night
with a congregation who evinced a
deep Interest In the strong and power-
ful sermon delivered by the evangel-
alt, Dr. Harris.
Heart service was the theme of his
discourse and he showed by invincible
comparison that heart service was re-
quired by both the old testament and
the new.
Hla elucidation of the ten command-
ments. taking each up In order and
showing that only through perfect
love and heart service could they be
obeyed, waa Interesting and entertain-
ing and proved conclusively that the
same love for God and perfect heart
service that made It poeelble to obey
the original decalogue also made It
possible to obey the last and grandest
commandment given by Jeeus to
"Love God with all thy aoul, with all
thy heart and with all thy strength
and thy neighbor as thyself"
Interspersed with the arguments of
the evangelist were occasional home-
ly, yet apt, illustrations and stories
that brought the lesson home, while
causing smiles to chase each other
across the countenance* of hla hear-
ers.
The choir waa In good form last
night and the music rendered under
the direction of Prof. Palff was thor-
oughly enjoyed by the gathering. A
sweet solo repdered by him just before
the sermon was very effective.
An instrumental number by three
little girls with violins, accomjmnled
by Mr*. J. M. Portwood on the piano,
* I waa rendered during the collection and
was highly enjoyed.
The sendees are growing In Inter-
est and the outlook Is promising for
a moat gratifying meeting. Services
are being held at 10 a. m. and 8 p. m„
with talks In the afternoon at three
o'clock by Mr* Nelson.

Mr. McKinnon announces that In
the near future there will be a night-
ly change of program at the Empire,
aa the patronage being extended this
little play house Is nightly Increasing
—the audiences being thoroughly ap-
preciative as well as large.
