PALESTINE TEXAS SEPTEMBER 24 1003
THE MAN AND THE MULE
The male he is a gentle beast
And so is the man
Hes satisfied to be the least
And so is man-
Like man he may be taught some
tricks
He does his work from 8 to 6
The male when he goes mad he kicks
And so does man
The mule ho haB a load to pull
And so has man
Hes happier when he is fall
And so is man-
Like man he holds a patient poise
And when his works done will rejoice
The mule he Iikes to hear his voice
And so does man
The mule he has his faults tis true
And so has man
He does some things she shouldnt do
And so does man-
Like man he doesnt yearn for style
But wants contentment ail the while
The mule hebas a lovely smile
And so has man
The mulols sometimes kind and good
And so is man
He eats all kinds of breakfast food
And so does man-
Like man he balks at gaudy dress
And all outlandish foolishness
The mules accused of mulishness
And so is man

OT irterestPalestine business peo
le in the movement
Byj > roper efforts Palestine can
be made the rival of any East
Texascity but such results can-
not be accomplished without or
ganization and the proper encour
agementbyour business people
Individually the farmers and
truckers will grow and ship on a
limited scale but to no great
advantage or success
Astrong organization is needed
and should be headed by sjstem
atic business men who can have
hundreds of acres pledged to cer-
tain crops arrange for packing
shipping etc and either interest
cash buyers in coming here or
sending agents out to handle the
shipments
Anderson county can grow as
fine track as ever came out of
Texas soil The problem nowis
to grow in sufficient quantities for
proper and profitable handling
and shipping
Urto latestreports yellow fever
had not crossed over the Bio
Grande into Texas though it is
feared it will do so Hundreds
of people have left Laredo for
different points in Texas
At Waco a general movement
has been inaugurated against the
sellers of dope and several ar-
rests have been made Under the
new law the dope sellers path-
way is made rough
Now if Palestine people would
only tackle a few more business
propositions with the same vim as
they used on the Carnival what
a town we could have
Oxlv a few years now and there
will be no more cheap lands in
the fruit and truck bolt of Texas
Better buy you a home now if it
is only ten acres
All pa pupils have been
shut out of the schools at Waco
on account of the overcrowded
condition of the building
now and the price is declining
Farmers will do well to hold for
a better price
AN ECONOMICAL
FUNERAL AFFAIR
Grand Rapids Sept 23 Incased in
a plain pointed pine box that did not
cost more than Sa50 the body of Prof
Max Wright instructor in modern
languages in Leland Stanford Univer-
sity and the son of wealthy parents
was buried late yesterday A simple
burial was ordered by Prof Wright
He believed the custom of lavish bur-
ial barbarous and economically wrong
and directed before bis death that
5200 of his money that would ordi-
narily be spent for his funeral be
used for a public fountain as a monu-
ment to his memory Prof Wrights
father did the work of undertaker
There was no minister and no religious
service and the body was taken to
the grave in a plain wagon At the
grave Dr Wright father of the de-
ceased addressed his relatives and
friends explaining the reason for the
simple funeral
THOUSANDS SAW
THE BIG CARNIVL
W F Morris county clerk of An-
derson county is here on business
with the land office Speaking of the
East Texas Carnival just closed Mr
Morris declared that it was by far the
most successful affair ever held at
Palestine
According to tho figures of the In-
ternational and Great Northern peo-
ple there were actually 30000 people
in attendance at tho Carnival during
the three days it was in progress
The citizens of Palestine had no trou-
ble in entertaining tho vast number
The hotels did not charge any extra
rates and everything was on the same
basis as in normal times
Mr Morris said that tho Carnival
will result in great good not only to
Palestine and Anderson county but
all that section of the State as it at-
tracted people from all over the coun-
try Ho said tho exhibit was the
finest he over saw Austin Tribune

A Message to Dyspeptics

Cause from tho Osteopathic
view A disturbance in the anat-
omical structures of tho spine
serves to overthrow the balance
of tho nervous system in such a-
way that tho stomach and intes-
tines aro robbed of their normal
nervous energy at the same time
there is a deprivation of blood in
those organs stomach and in-
testines
With both the blood supply
and physiological control of these
orgnns thus abridged the waj is
open to every sort of defective
functioning which means dis
ease Osteopaths view tho anatomy
of the neck for obstruction of
nervous transmissions through
tho right and left pneumagastric
nerves and the spinal connection
through the sympathetic organs
removing any obstruction of
whatever nature thereby supply
ing the organs with their normal
nervous energy and blood supply
from which health will issue if
only tho excitants as claimed by
the old school be withheld es-
pecially Nos 1 and 2
Greatest per cent of cures from
dyspeptics have come through
osteopathic treatments as can bo
substantiated by living witnesses
