RUSSIA IS HIT
ANOTHER BLOW
Rome Dispatches State Russians
Met Crushing Defeat
London Juno 1 A special dispatch
from Rome says a telegram has been
received there from Tokio reporting
that General Kuroki has completely
defeated General Kuropatkina forces
near Sumintza probably Simatsza or
Simatszi
All Russian positions east of Hal
Ching have been abandoned accord-
ing to the telegram several guns hav
ing been taken and whole squadrons
of Cossacks captured
It is barely possible that the nows
received in Rome refers to the fight-
ing reported in last nights dispatches
from Liao Yang and St Petersburg
These did not indicate a general en-
gagement but showed a series of
sharp engagements had taken place
cast of Simatszi lasting from the
morning of May 27 until daylight on
May 30 which resulted in severe losses
on both sides and the retirement of
the Russians upon Simatszi The lat-
ter place is 35 miles north of Feng
