Veil Ilnrrlcnnn Stneccnnch Trip
Ned Ilnrrigan was contrasting his
own stagecoach trip to the Paclllc
coast with the special train luxury of
a modern company Things were very
different for theatrical wanderers In
the sixties said Mr Hnrrigan Go-
ing by stage from one small town to
another near San Francisco I sat out-
side with the driver The man who
occupied the box seat on the other side
of him nsked
Say Hill did you see that show
Inst night
I should say I dluV was the reply
of the driver and If cvet I got hold of
the troupe that gave that show Id
blow them full of holes They wasnt
worths shucks
Say mil continued my compan-

No I dont replied the driver
suddenly pulling up
He Jumped from the box contin-
ued Mr Ilarrlgan and threw open
the door of the conch Now all you
folks git out he roared every one of
ye Its eight miles to the next town

suffer any morcn you made me suffer
last night
I thoijght he was going to overlook
me but the other fellows In the com-
pany took care of that I got down
and walked with the others and It
was the longest eight miles I ever
tramped Hut Hill was not to be np

What Is the difference between al-
lied and associate membership in the
UitltcdlstatcM Golf association nsked
a golfer recently
Ninety dollars was the answer
Andiso it Is There are about 1300
golf clubs in the United States Thirty
of these pay 100 a year for the pur-
pose of telling the rest of the bunch
whatthey cant do Something like
21G clubs pay 10 a year for allied
membership The other 10T 0 odd clubs
pay nblhlng and thereby save money
end self respect
Thetwentynlne associate clubs in-
clude f twentyfour eastern and Ave
western organizations a fine ratio of
representation with the reverse Eng-
lish The allied members at the annual
meeting have the privilege of talking
themselves to death whilthe votes of
the j iilated clubs absolutely govern
the action of the meeting
Until this class legislation Is done
away with the term national will be a
misnomer as applied to the United
Suites Golf association and apparently
the only proper way to remedy the
matter Is to formulate the rules of the
governing body so that every golf club
tributary to the association may have
a voice and a vote In Its affairs
