PALESTINE TEXAS THURSDAY AETERNOON NOVEMBER 3 1904
IT WAS A VERY
LIVELY MEETING
Immigration and Industrial Asso-
ciation Meeting Was Lively
From Start to Finish
Thoro was a rousing meeting of tho
Immigration and Industrial Associa
tion of the International and Great
Northern country at tho city hall yes
terday with President P W Colby in
the chair and R R Claridgo acting as
secretary in the absence of the secre-
tary O Roe Hall The meeting was a
lively one from start to finish the dis
cussion at times taking on a somewhat
strenuous tone but tho crossfiring
was good humored and when a party
to the controversy got laid out ho
subsided with good natured complac
ency Withal there was considerable
fun mixed up with the proceedings
but through it all an evident deter-
mination to do something at this meet-
ing which shall havo bearing upon the
movement of homeseekers to the L
Q N country this winter
Ways and moans to advertise the
grand territory embraced by tho I
G N country furnished occasion for
most of the discussion which was
quito interesting as well as instructive
There seemed a strong sentiment in
favor of a largo issue of a publication
covering in a general way tho re-
sources and advantages of the I G
N country while a few favored tho
idea of a fund to bo expended in
northern and eastern newspapers
Finally the matter was referred to a
joint committee of three to be ap-
pointed by the chair acting in con-
nection with the executive committee
to devise a plan of advertising the I
G N country with power to act in
carrying out the plan The chair ap-
pointed R F Pool of Cameron Henry
Edwards of Troupe and R R Claridge
of Palestine as this special committee f
with instructions to got action as soon
1 as possible Yesterday evening a
joint conferenco of the two committees
was held at the Faulkner hotel at
which it was agreed that for results
this year the season is too far ad
vanced to permit of tho large publica-
tion above referred to involving the
expenditure of sovcral thousand dol
lars and that for Immediate results at
small cost it would bo hotter at pres
ent to provide a comparatively small
Ittnd to be used in advertising the ad-
vantages of tho 1 G N country in
various northern and eastern papers
bf largo circulation So this course
Ws decided upon and tho plan will bo
darned out immediately It was also
decided that replies to these adver-
tisements should be directed to corns
