THE REVIVAL MEETING
Weather Kept Many People Away But
Good Services Were Held
The revival at Centenary Methodist
church passed yesterday Into the
second week The weather was In-
clement and threatening throughout
the entire day preventing the usual
Sunday attendance but nevertheless
four services were held and there was
a feeling of distinct progress even It
small
The Saturday night service was at-
tended by a small congregation The
text was Matt 1230 It at least
served the purpose of holding the
ground already gained
Sunday at 11 a m the pastor
preached an unusual sermon from I
Cor 1558 He pointed out two divis-
ions evidently in the mind of the apos-
tle First the necessity for consist-
ency upon the part of the christian
people If they are to retain spiritual
life or have Influence In the world
Second the duty of doing cliflstian
work much time being given to a
delineation of true as opposed to
spurious christian work Among other
things he said that the impression the
world got of God was what it saw in
the lives of professing christians and
professing christians ought therefore
to do right or get out of tne way and
cease to wear the christian cloak He
said the revival was like the harvest
season In nature and nothing was
equal to It In importance and every
thing in business social and religious
life should give away before it and
for a professing christian to Ignore a
revival Indicated one of two things
rank hyi > ocrlsy or ignorance of the
true nature of the christian religion
The sermon created a mild sensation
but almost without exception the
members who were guilty many of
them prominent officers went to the
pastor after the benediction and con-
fessed their wrong and promised
amendment
j At 3 p m tho largest childrens
service of the meeting was held The
text was John 1334 and the subject
was Love to Our Neighbors The
entire congregation rose in token of
a willingness to forgive every wrong
done to them by anybody
At 4 p m the pastor accompanied
by a number of his members went to
the jail and held a service for the
prisoners though a number of others
gathered in The text was Luke 1910
Mrs John D Grlgsby sang Tell
Mother Ill De There-
At 745 the congregation was Im-
proved considerably and the pastors
subject was Compromises and the

every one present pledged themselves
to more faithfulness to God and the
meeting
The pastor and people especially ap-
preciated the presence both morning
and evening of Rev C W Meyers of
the Congregational church and some
of his people Brother Meyers called
In both of his services and urged his
people to attend the revival meeting
The meetings continue at 3 and
745 p m and all are Invited
