gan It is the design of Mr Copplnl
the famous sculptor of San Antonio
and was selected as the best design
among many which were submitted to
the monument committee Mr Coppl
nl lias been at work on the model for
nearly a year and he considers the
memorial the best of his works He
will leave for Italy In a few weeks
and the plaster caste of the great
monument will be taken to Rome and
cast In bronze
The memorial consists of two life
size figures Judge Reagan Is repre-
sented as arising from a chair and
stands in the attitude of addressing
the Confederate senate His left hand
is raised In gesture and In his right
he carries a roll of papers This fig-
ure is mounted on a pedestal of Tex-
as granite twelve feet in height
An allegorical figure of a nude man
draped with a Confederate flag sits at
the base of the pedestal The figure
represents the Lost Cause to which
Judge Reagan gave the best of his life
A helmet rests on the
figure representing the
clash of arms In which the cause was
born
Next week the monument will be
shipped to Galveston and then trans-
ferred by steamer to Rome Italy
Mrs Mollle Reagan Moblcy daugh-
ter of the great Texan was enthusias-
tic In her praise of the memorial
It Is wonderful how the sculptor
has caught the likeness of ray father
she said It is a perfect portrait arid
even the details of form and dress
are correct
The efforts of the Palestine chaptei
to raise funds for the erection of the
memorial has met with great success
and the entire amount 8000 has
been subscribed It Is probable that
an additional fund will be subscribed
to beautify the grounds surrounding
