touched off the bomb which was dis-
covered a few days ago in the Inter
national and Great Northern freight
depot The officers were afraid to
keep the bomb in the vault of the fed
eral building and took this method of
getting rid of it After the explosion
the ground for thirty feet around
where the bomb had been was cover-
ed with flames caused by the burning
of a kind of grease This leads to
the belief that the bomb was Intended
to be used in a crowd as the burn-
ing grease would start a panic and
the heavy smoke would allow those
vayin safety
The bomb did not tear a large hole
In the ground nor was the noise of
the explosion very loud The officers
who are working on the case have not
yet found any clue to the shipper of
the box containing the bomb

HANDED US A GOLD BRICK

J
That Is the Prediction of Receiver T
J Freeman of the I G N as
to the Texas Cotton Crop
Houston Texas Sept 10 A cotton
crop of 3250000 bales for Texas in-
stead of the 2000000 bale crop that
is the general estimate which was
predicted by Judge T J Freeman re-
ceiver of the International and Great
Northern on Friday before he left for
New York
Judge Freeman bases his prediction
on several theories One is the re-
port from Austin that the ginning re-
ports are only 6000 bales behind what
they were this time last year An-
other is the greatly increased acreage
of cotton in the Panhandle especially
on the line of the Fort Worth and
Denver which he has recently gone
over and the final fact that the cot
toncropis all late thisjreas
Comparisons were made with TEe7
crops and prices of former year3
Judge Freeman said The bumper
crop of cotton for the state was made
in 1894 when 4000000 bales were
raised The price then was only 5c
and even less I remember because
the road I then represented had to
pay for 126000 bales of it destroyed
by fire in New Orleans The crop o
the present year is bringing close to
14c If it should be only a 2000000
bale crop it would be the equivalent
at the prices of a 6000000 bale crop
of 5c cotton Not only that when a
smaller crop brings better prices the
farmer saves a big lot in operating
railroads that have less cotton to
haul In my judgment all over the
country crops are simply thirty days
late 1 am no bear as to the amount
of the cotton crop It has been my
experience that if cotton is not ac-
tually killed by August 17 then we
have a big crop North of the Texas
Pacific line especially on the Fort
Worth and Denver there is a larger
acreage and a better crop than ever
before
Despite his prediction of a large
crop Judge Freeman does not believe
that there will be any shortage of
