;> person will agree that
the pun is thu lowest form of
tumor, and the one I heard this
week probably hits a new low. It’s
about the bee that flew into an

came along about that time and
ordered Esso. When the attendant
asked the first bee why he used
egular and the other used Esso

a regular bee. My friend is an
Esso bee."
Drizzle or . . .?
T^ID you ever stop to think what
a peculiar-sounding word "driz-
zle" is',’ When a newscaster was
giving the weather the other day
lie said it was "drizzling rain."
Another newscaster on another
station said a "drizzle was falling."
Which brings up the question
immediately: Is "drizzle" a verb
or a noun'.’ Does it really drizzle
rain, or does a drizzle come down?
It really doesn’t make a lot of
difference been use it will all prob-
ably lizzli out pretty soon, any-
way . . but look it up in Mr
Webster if you wish; both news-
casters were correct.

Four Rockdale
Alcoans Presented
Ten-Year Awards
Four Rockdale Alcoans were
presented ten-year service awards
this month
Ten years ago this month con-
struction people were scrambling
all over the rapidly rising Alcoa’s
Rockdale Works, carving out Ai-
ds') lake and erecting steel at .Al-
coa’s newest smelting plant.
In January, 1952. Alcoa let con-
tracts to three Texas firms to pre-
pare plan' for the plant's adminis-
tration building, to test for a plant
water supply, and to install
plumbing in several buildings.
At the same time, lrnmcwork
was going up for two warehouses,
foundations were being laid for
an alumina storage tank, and a 15-
line telephone trunk line was be
ing installed to serve the company
and contractors on the job-site.
Reckoning back to that time,
four Alcoans were presented ten
currently president of the board,
Dt John T Richards, and Johnny
Ralston
Members ot the school board,
like members of the city govern-
ment, serve without pay. No pub-
lic statements have been made re-
garding the coming election by
any of the men whose terms ex-
pire.
While a iioll tax is a require-
ment of voting in county and
state elections .and a city poll tax
is required for city elections, it has
been pointed out that voting in
the Rockdale independent school
district elections does not hinge
on whether or not a person has
paid his city poll tax.
The city poll tax applies only
to tiie city election. The Rockdale
Independent School district em-
braces communities adjacent to
Rockdale and residents of these
communities, as well as citizens
of Rockdale, are entitled to vote
in thi1 ■ ehool election it has been

County Politics
No fireworks are expected
insofar as county politics and the
Cameron courthouse are concern-
ed this year, although a race has
developed in the counties of Mi-
lam, Robertson and Burleson for
the state representative post now
held by Herman Yezak Milton
Schiller of Cameron has announc-
ed as a candidate also.
In the past this representative
post has comprised the counties
of Milam and Robertson, but this
year the county of Burleson has
been added.
Some contests are developing in
some of the precinct offices of
Milam county.
Poll Tax Payman'l*
At the city hall in Rockdale
Wednesday poll tax payments
were listed at the 350 figure. At
this date last year 209 city pol 1
| taxi had been paid, although the
year before the poll tax figures
topped the 700 mark.
At Cameron the office of tax
assessor-collector renurted Wed-
nesday that 2149 poll taxes had
been paid at the court house. This
figure does not include payments
at sub-stations in Rockdale and
Cameron, they explained. At the
Gaither Motor company in Roch-
dale payments had totaled 85.
This, coupled with Thorndale,
vear .-or vice awards this month, should bring current total for the
Phey were Works manager It R. county around the 2250 mark.
