The condition of Fritz Sehukraft
who underwent a serious opera-
tion in Galveston last Saturday,
is reported to be most favorable
although it will take some time
for him to recover.
Visiting in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Otto Luotgc and son, Elmo
over the week end were Miss
Evelyn Reed of Camp Hood, and
Miss Lucille Luetge of Killeen,
also Miss Annie Mae Timmerman.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Korne-
gay of San Diego, California are
the parents of a seven-pound baby
girl, born January 20. Mr. Kor-
negay is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. D. Kornegay and received his
discharge from the navy last Sep-
tember and is now working for an
iron works company*in San Diego.
Mr. and Mrs. George Combest
and small daughter, Bobbin of Ft.
Worth and her brother, Robert
of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Christian,
and is a native Kockdalian. Af-
ter his graduation from Rockdale
he entered the army before war
was declared, serving lor five and
a half years, nineteen months of
which .service was in the South-
wet Pacific. He won distinction
in the A. A. C. branch and receiv-
ed his discharge as Staff Sergeant!

Mrs. Noble Green has returned
from Seaton Hospital, Austin,
where she was under treatment of
a Neuro-Psychiatrist. Mrs. Green
suffered a bad fall and burns at
her home here last week. For al-
most three days she remained in
a deep coma and little hope was
held when she responded sudden-
ly to penicillin.

Austin, Jan. 23.—An official an-
nouncement from the State Com-
mittee for Approval of Education-
al and Training Institutions has
been received by Dr. Geo. W. Cox,
State Health Oficer, designating
the Texas State Department of
Health as an approved vocational
training agency for veterans.
Training offered by the State
Health Department will include
sanitary engineering, entomology,
technician, water and sewage
plant operation and typhus con-
trol.
Veterans who meet the eligibil-
ity requirements under the "G. I.
Bill of Rights," ages 20 to 40, with
at least a high school education
and physically fit for field work
may apply for this training. Ap-
plicants should be men who desire
to make sanitation or some other
phase of public health activity a
career or life work. Applicants
who have been accepted will re-
ceive such training allowances as
is provided under the “G. I. Bill
of Rights”; for instance, $65 and
$90 per month, depending on mar-
ital status, which amount may be
supplemented by the city where
the applicant is taking his train-
I ing.

I this type of training, veterans are
j urged to consult their local branch
of the Veterans’ Administration,
I their local health officer or the
I State Department of Health in
