PLAYLET IS PRESENTED
TO ASSEMBLY RECENTLY

The students enjoyed a playlet,
“Curing the Invalid," recently pre-
sented in assembly by the 7B Li-
terary Club. The cast was as fol-
lows:

Mrs. Brown, Mary Frances Crump
Edna, Valmalene Von Gonten;
Bridget, Lorene Dockall: Dr. Jones

The assembly January 17 wel-
comed back Mr. Selman, after an
extended illness. He made a short
complimenting tlic Students uii
their reading program.
The program this week was giv-
en by the 1!B Science Class. It
was called "The Magic Show',”
with Ralph Strieker the announc-
er and Sidney Maxwell, the magi-
cian. Chemistry reports were
made by Julia Carol Busch, Peggy
• Joyce McNiel, Betty Jane Bart-

Superintendent C. M. Selmun
states that Mrs. Loween Malechek,
who teaches freshman and sopho-
more English in high school, has
tendered her resignation effective
at the end of the first semester.
Mrs. Malechek plans to join her
husband who will be released from
the armed forces in the very near
future.
Mrs. Malechek has only served
one semester as a member of the
faculty of the Rockdale Public
Schools, but during that time she
won the esteem of both the stu-
dents and faculty.
Mrs. Eleanor Warren has been
elected to fill the English vacancy
and will assume her duties the
beginning of the second semester.
Mrs. Warren is a graduate of the
University of Texas, and has her
B. A. and M. A. degrees. She has
been a member of the faculty of
the El Paso Public Schools for
several years and comes recom-
mended as a teacher in the Eng-
lish field.

INTERMEDIATE CLUBS

The Literary Club answered roll
call with one of their friend's
names. Sammy Perry read the
diary. Laverne Dockall asked some
moron riddles, Sue Smith and Kit-
tie Williams sang “Symphony,"
"That’s For Me.” and “Till the
End of Time.” Short stories were
told by Wiley Gilmore and Char-
lie Watson.
The Lazy Daisy Club put on a
| program in their activity period.
Those taking part were: Harvey
! Simmons, Oilie Young, Ira Wano-
| reck, Ernest Rutherford, James

TIGER BASKETBALL B-TEAM
BEATS CAMERON 32-13.

Friday, January 18, the Cam-
! eron basketball boys came over
| and played the local boys. Our
I B-team won their game by a score
| of 32-13. Noack led in points with
ten.
In one of the best games of the
jyear, Cameron won over the Tiger
| team by a score of 27-35. The
I half time score was tied 17-17.
The Tigers were ahead 23-21 when

the middle of the fourth quarter.
Leech was high point man with 13
points. Close behind was Wilburn
Alford with 11 points.
Rockdale will go to Hearne for a
game Friday night, January 25.
Monday night, January 28, Thorn-
dale comes here for two games of
basketball and three games of vol-
ley ball. Come out and watch the
Tigers. They need your support.
The boys on both A and B teams
played a good game.
PERSONALITY
OF THE WEEK

Due to the cost of the picture
of the personality of the week it
has been omitted this week. We
are sure, though, that in the near
future it will be back since a com-
mittee has been appointed to work
out a plan to meet this need. We
are sure that everyone enjoys this
column so be patient, and it will
be ba’ck with you soon.
FIRST SEMESTER ENDS

The work for the first semester
will end Friday. January 25. Fin-
.1 examinations will be held on
Thursday the 24th, and Friday
the 25th. Commercial Arithmetic
will be offered the second semes
ter, following the termination of
Algebra II. All schedule changes
will be made on Thursday and
Friday of this week.
LIBRARY CLUB NEWS

The Library Club met for the
third time this new year with Mrs.
Marshall, sponsor on Friday morn-
ing, January 18, 1946. The Club
enjoyed a splendid lesson from the
manual on "Getting Acquainted
With Encyclopedias in Our Li
brary.”
The library received its first
issue of “The Etude” this week.
We are grateful to the National
Musical Club for a one-year sub-
scription to this magazine. The
band students in particular will
enjoy it, *
HIGH SCHOOL CLUBS

The Homemaking Club met Jan-
uary 21, 1946. The program chair-
man, Gene Tuma. had planned a
very interesting program on fa-
mous teen agers.
Those participating were: Joy
Addington, who talked on Shirley
T e m p 1 e, Dorothy Timmerman,
who spoke on Queen Elizabeth,
and Mvrtie Rose Crim who made
an interesting speech on Patricia
Mtmsell.
The club decided to order club
nins. and money was collected for
them.
The F. F. A. Club has begun
discussing the district banquet and
its possibilities. They also voted
unanimousily to go 100C on the
March of Dimes dri\e.
