SASTA LETTERS
W hon old friends drop in during the new year, follow the charming
custom of welcoming them with refreshments served from something
old such as your cherished milk glass, or rnuyhe your precious hand
painted plates. The thought behind this custom is that you cherish
their friendships, too, and that your house will be open to them through
the new year.
To carry out the “cherished” idea, serve old English type fruit cake,
and a hot beverage. The history of this fruit cuke is written in the old,
old cook books. It is traditionally made with butter from n pound cake
hatter, and you'll find your grocer has it today, made the same way,
in his ready-to-eat cake department.
Entertaining such as this is the mark of true hospitality, and your
friends will remember its sincere warmth.
