Don t know who is respon-
sible for it. but Town Talk
wishes to commend those
responsible for tire forth-
coming old-fashioned, open-
air concert to be presented
next Sunday afternoon by
the cuero high school band
Time was when this was a
weekly occurrence in Cuero,
usually Friday night, and
the music was turned out by
the Cuero Turkey Trotter
band in the city park next
to the new Chamber of
Commerce building. The
custom was followed during
the summer months. Those
occasions were some of the
happiest in the memory of
the writer and most every-
one in town dropped by at
some time during the even-
ing to listen to the wide
variety of selections offered.
All members of the group
played for the sheer plea-
sure they derived from the
programs themselves and for
the pleasure they provided
for others. There are still
some former members of
that same band around, but
many of them have crossed
the Great Divide
Of course, in those days
there were few radios, no
televisions, no Little League
ball games, no night base-
ball and no Income taxes.
The first-named four did
r.ot divide the crowds at the
various entertainments as
it does these days and the
nonexistence of the last-
named permitted a body to
relax to the fullest extent.
Improvements galore put
in their appearance in many
fields as time went on, but
those of us old . enough to
remember these occasions
will never forget them.
Plan to be among those
attending Sunday's concert
at the high school.
