So I have a suggestion to the !
winning teams. Have a couple ]
of cases of Coke or 7-Up handy

Dump the soft drinks on the

as champagne. . .and several
dollars per bottle cheaper.

It is right and proper to drink
champagne, if you like cham-

victory.
But to pour it on the heads of
newsmen, club owners or bat-
boys. . .that’s the height of
tomfoolery.
YOU ARE ALL welcome to
this money-saving suggestion.
I really don’t know why I
should mind if they immerse
lockerroom visitors and work-
ing reporters in champagne.
I don’t have to be there.
1 guess it is that in my hum-
ble opinion it is an unregenerate
use of champagne. . .something
the champagne makers did not
have in mind for their venerable

IT IS POSSIBLE that some
lockerroom visitors, newsmen
and such, may be wearing rugs
. .toupees, that is.
The champagne could com-
pletely ruin them. Also, cham-
pagne Isn’t cheap.
IT IS OLD HAT by now, but
wasn’t that a sneaky way to
win a pennant? Cincinnati had
their champagne bash (or bath)
without even playing.
As you know the tricky Astros
did it. . .shoved the Redlegs in-
to the victory by beating the
LA Dodgers.
And the Orioles won the AL
East title by losing to the Wash-
ington Sens!
The reason, of course, was
that Boston beat the 2nd place
Yankees to knock the Yanks
out of the race.
