The Cuero Wellness Center hosted their Turkey Trot 5Kon Oct. 13. Rudy Rocha was the overall
male winner and Dixie Blackwell was the overall female winner.
DeWitt County Democratic Women hosted a Dutch luncheon on Oct. 18 at Millie’s on Main to
introduce candidates for the general election. Candidates who attended the event are shown
from left, Kevin Kross, DeWitt County Sheriff candidate; Alex Hernandez Jr., State
Representative, District 30 candidate; Sandra McKenzie, District Judge, 24th Judicial District
candidate; Trey Lewis, representative for Filemon Vela, United States Representative, District 34
candidate; and Jimmy Solis, DeWitt County Commissioner, Precinct No. 1 candidate.

The Cuero Community
Hospital Volunteers will host
their annual fundraiser bake
sale in the atrium and Angel
Courtyard at the Cuero
Community Hospital begin-
ning at 7 a.m. on Friday, Nov.
2. Breakfast tacos will also
be sold for $2, choices will
be: bacon and egg, chorizo
and egg, bean and egg,
sausage and egg, and potato
and egg. To pre-order, email
ltccottoncop@gmail.com by 7
p.m. on Oct. 31. The Gold
Refinery will also be set up in
the atrium to purchase gold
and silver on Thursday, Nov. 1
and Friday, Nov. 2 from 7 a.m.
until 4 p.m.

The Cuero Wellness Center hosted the
5th Annual Turkey Trot 5k on Saturday,
Oct. 13. Participants registered and
received race day packets at Main Street
Kaffe Haus.
After registration, all 65 participants
walked down to the Cuero Fire
Department where the race began. The
3.1 mile course was a two lap course in
the shape of a “G” in honor of the Gobbler
Gallop. The race route was very challeng-
ing to participants because it required
running or walking up and down hills on
Main Street multiple times.
Rudy Rocha was the overall male win-
ner and Dixie Blackwell was the overall
female winner. Awards were also given to
1st through 3rd place of each age division.
For the age division of 0-13, placing for
the female were, 1st Dixie Blackwell, 2nd
Carmen Armondo, 3rd Clark Monington.
For the males, William Carbonara took
1st, with CJ Wagner in 2nd.
In the 14-19 age division, for the
females, 1st place went to Alex
Villafranca, 2nd to Jocee Bennett, and 3rd
to Katrina Goebel. For the males,
Benjamin Villarreal took 1st place, Jacob
Drier took 2nd place and Jordan Vernon
took 3rd.
For the 20-29 age division, 1st place for
the females was Tiffany Chandler, and
2nd went to Haley Gossett. For the males,
Chris Gussman took 1st place and Gerry
Shore won 2nd.

Ledbetter honored with reception
A reception honoring Peggy Ledbetter, retiring DeWitt County treasurer, was held on Oct. 26 at the
DeWitt County Courthouse. Ledbetter has been the county’s treasurer since 1989, she has worked
for the county for 37 years.
