.Morn Than Half of All Hudson
Now Used liy Country Schools
Less than half of the busses In
uso today are In common carrier
service the National Association
of Motor Bus Operators declared
today In refuting tho charge from
railroad sources that there 'are
02.SOA busses competing with the
rail lines.
"In the rush to sock higher tax-
es and burdensome restrict' "ns oi;
tho motor trnnsport" said tne As-
r relation which is affiliated with I
the A. A. A. "tho enemies of eco-
nomical transportation point to
competition.
"They ignore tho fact that 12.000
busses may be considered adjuncts
of the Hchnol districts and there-
fore n part oC tho nation's edu-
cation system . This flguro does
not Include 3000 common carrier
busaos which render school ser-
vice. In addition to school busses
there are 4500 sightseeing and
prlvnto huises which are In no
sonse mil competitors."
The Bus Association pointed nut
that each morning the school
btisuofi pick up more than 1250000
children and transport them over
400.000 miles of road to 17000 con-t
solldateil schools.
"Surely" continued the state
ment "the enemies of highway
transportation cannot seriously
contend that this service In the
cause of education is a threat to
rail revenues . Yet that la the
view taken when It Is claimed
that tho rail lines are competing
with 02500 busses."
