James W. Harper, 78, of Mineral Wells, passed
away in Weatherford on June 2, 2014.
Graveside service is 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at
Woodland Park Cemetery.
James was born in Hope, Ark.,
the son of Otha and Hazel Virginia
Smith Harper. James served his
country proudly in the U.S. Navy.
James had a passion for working with children. He
was a teacher and then moved to administration
and retired as a principal.
He will be missed dearly by his wife, Barbara
Harper; children, Cheri Hukins and husband, Joe,
Donald Dingier and wife, Candace, and Gayle
Pitchford and husband, Alvin; sister, Betty Walters;
and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
nephews.

HOBBS, N.M. - Barbara Janet Parks Houston, 83,
passed from this life on May 29, 2014, in Hobbs, N.M.
Service was Tuesday, June 3, at First Presbyterian
Church with Dr. Gary Dill presiding.
Family visitation was Monday at
Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Graveside service is 11 a.m. Friday,
June 6, at Millsap Cemetery, in
Millsap. Arrangements are under the
direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral
Home, Hobbs, N.M., www.chapelof-
hopefunerals.com.
Barbara was born to Gray don
Bernard Parks and Elsie Bankhead
Parks on Dec., 18, 1930, in Millsap, Texas. She attend-
ed school in Millsap and graduated from Millsap
High School in 1947. She attended the University of
North Texas, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in
English in 1951 and a aster's in English in 1962.
Barbara began her teaching career in Millsap. She
also taught in Abilene, Mineral Wells and Ponder
before moving to Hobbs in 1957.
On Aug. 25,1956, Barbara married Frank Norman
Houston III at First Methodist Church in Millsap.
They moved to Hobbs in 1957. Two children were
born of this union, Leslie Houston Hill, of Hobbs,
and John Houston, of Millsap.
Barbara began teaching at Hobbs High School in
August 1957. She taught both English and Spanish
her first year and English only thereafter. In 1969
she was named the first department chairman of the
English Department and served in that capacity
until 1978, when she became the first female assis-
tant principal at Hobbs High School. In January
1988 she became the principal at Highland Junior
High School until her retirement in 1990. Following
her retirement from the Hobbs schools she made the
Hobbs High School class schedule for 1991 and
taught English Literature at University of the
Southwest. The AP curriculum that is currently used
by the Hobbs High School English Department is
based upon the honors English curriculum she cre-
ated in the 1960s.
Barbara was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma
and the Women's Civic Club. After retirement
Barbara and Frank traveled extensively, with prima-
ry focus on Europe and Great Britain.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years; her
daughter, Leslie Hill and husband, Donnie, of Hobbs,
N.M.; son, John Houston, of Millsap; grandchildren,
Mark Hill, of Lubbock, Lauren Hill, of Hobbs,
Hannah Hill, of Hobbs, Donnie Hill Jr., of Hobbs,
Sherry Hill Goodwin and husband, Brian, of Hobbs,
Amy Hill, of Hobbs, and Richard Hill and wife,
Brooke, of Midland; and eight great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents;
and her brother, G.B. Parks, of Millsap.

Arthur Lee Moss
Arthur Lee Moss passed away at the hospital
Friday May 30, 2014, on his 83rd birthday.
Graveside service is 10 a.m. Friday June 6 at
Sturdivant Cemetery in Mineral
Wells. Grandsons will serve as pall-
bearers. Visitation is 6-8 p.m.
Thursday, June 5, at the funeral
home.
He was born in Garner, Texas, on
May 30,1931, to Willie and Evie
Davis Moss. He was a lifelong resi-
dent of Mineral Wells. He was a
mechanic, enjoyed flea markets and
gambling. He could always tell you
a story that would make you laugh.
His passion was his family and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters, Louise Moren
and Sandy (Keith) Cowley; three sons, Wayne
(Vanessa) Moss, Gene (Garla) Moss, both of Mineral
Wells, and Charles (Debbie) Moss of Sonora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three
brothers; and a sister.

Max Elwood Oberholzer
Max Elwood Oberholzer, 75,
went home to be with The Lord
on June 2, 2014, at the Odyssey
Hospice Care of Fort Worth.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday,
June 7, at Salesville Baptist
Church. Burial will follow in
Graford Cemetery. Visitation is
6-8 p.m. Friday at Baum-Carlock-
Bumgardner Funeral Home.
He was born June 23,1938, in
Waynecastle, Pa., the son of
Raymond Charles and Ann
Elizabeth Grosh Oberholzer. He
married Odena Lee Hood in 1960.
She preceded him in death on
Nov. 12, 2002. He married Maggie
Young in August 2008. He was a
member of Salesville Baptist
Church and the
Graford Lions
Club. He was a
veteran of the
U.S. Air Force.
He worked for
Bell Helicopter
for 33 years. He
was most recent-
ly employed at
Graford ISD.
He is survived
by his wife,
Maggie
Oberholzer, of
Graford; sons, William Todd
Oberholzer, of Fort Worth, and
Thomas Kirk Oberholzer, of
Graford; granddaughter, Shenan
Oberholzer, of Watauga; brother,
Kenneth and wife (Delta)
Oberholzer, of Greencastle, Pa.; sis-
ters, Romaine and husband
(George) Yantosik, of
Hummelstown, Pa., Martha and
husband (Leroy) Beeler, of
Chambersburg, Pa., Mary and hus-
band (John) Means, of Hagerstown,
Md., and Donna and husband
(Robert) Weikert of Fairfield, Pa.; 12
nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces
and great-nephews; and three great-
great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death
by his brothers, Zane Sr. and R.
Brondell Oberholzer.

Downing from childhood on
the family cotton farm in
rural Mississippi to many of

the Billy Graham Crusade

Cemetery is not a perpetu-

and beautiful little ceme-
tery. Please come help
